walt, a few months back i had chronic hives and got rid of them with hypnosis. my skin is still kind of sensitive though i.e when i scratch it or rub it red marks appear instantly, also every few days or so i will get red patches around my neck or on my forearms which to me look like flushing of sorts as opposed to hives,it goes away after 5 or 10 minutes. none of this itches and it really isnt bothersome , but i wanted to know if this is from the same mechanism as the hives. i am hoping as i continue s/r etc this will go away too, at times ( especially if im stressed)while getting the above symtpoms i will feel like i am on the brink of getting a hives outbreak and i in no way want those pesky critters back ever. also once in a blue moon if i have a stressfull night with no sleep , i will wake up with a small hive or 2 on my stomach area. i know stress has everythng to do with hives, my question is , is it possible that my leaky gut /c-rs has healed up ( i dont have any other symptoms) and the occasional skin problems are just left over and all stress related or do you think i have a ways to go with the lgs/c rs ?thanks.

Hi, Tom.
I appreciate your sharing your testimonial about the hives/hypnosis connection.
I hope you caught that I do not consider self-hypnosis to be a cure for hives but a way to get rid of them while you deal with WHY you have them.
The only thing I know of that will permanently get rid of hives is the regular practice of SR at least twice a day for 20 minutes. That will take 6-12 months before you have no tendency in the hive direction at all. Be sure that your technique is working (biofeedback) and know that if you do it less than twice a day that your % cure will be greatly reduced. Once you have been free of hive tendencies for about a year, once a day would likely be enough to prevent recurrence.
Also, because of the LGS/C-RS, you may have to do an elimination/provocation diet for about 6 months to get quicker results.
In the long run, you should not have to do anything about the LGS/C-RS but to continue your SR.

I have chronic hives on and off for 3 years. What is the RS you refer to? Please tell me where I can find out more about it.
Thanks,
GB

Hi, gb.
You will likely find out more about it here, in the archives of this BB, than any other easy place. Look for the testimonials since there are many about how hives respond to the regular practice of self-hypnosis.
Any instructor in self-hypnosis would also be a good resource for any printed research on the subject.

Walt,
I have just discovered this web site and I have researched the archives to understand more. I suffer from hives (non-itching) due to nervousness, different temperatures, and possible other causes. Along with this, I flush/blush very easily and at least once a day my nose becomes very red and hot and last for up to an hour. I tried hypnosis therapy 3 years ago and I could not eliminate the sypmtoms which have been occuring for about 8 years now. I am 27 years old and I would like to know if there if this condition actually has a name. I thought possibly it was rosacea but Metrogel does not work. Can you suggest something that may suppress these symptoms?
Thank you,
Christine

Hi, Christine.
What do you mean that you "tried hypnosis therapy"?
In MY experience "hypnosis therapy" seldom works for hives.
That is not what I am talking about at all.
Let me know what you did & perhaps I can help.

My understanding of your usage means hypnosis used as a mechanism to try to control the breakouts. I met with a therapist 4-5 times and she attempted to teach me ways to relax and find methods to contain and perhaps suppress my blushing/flushing. I never did completely 'go under' during the hypnosis, this is why I don't think it worked for me. Does this help?
Thanks, Christine

Yah, Christine, it really helps!
I was afraid that that is what your "therapist" did. You were caught between the old view of "hypnosis" and the more modern view (for the past 50 years) which is what you need.
There is no such thing as hypnosis. It is ALL self-hypnosis. SO, when you say that "I never did completely 'go under' during the hypnosis." it tells me why this did not work for you.
Although it is possible to resolve things like hives this way, it is rare. Taken as "self-hypnosis" is seldom fails.
The hypnosis trainer is just that: s/he is a teacher. You are the student. You are learning a skill that you have to practice regularly just like the skilled relaxation so often discussed on this BB.
To use this as your "way" you need a teacher that understands this in this way. The old, authoritarian (movie) hypnotists are just going to have to die out.
Let me know if this helps.
Walt
