HIVES

DR. STOLL:
I have had hives for the past 8 months. I have gone through allergy testing (scratch) for food and other allergies, thyroid testing, and testing for lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. I have seen two allergy doctors, a thyroid specialist and a family doctor. Nothing has been conclusive. I've tried different antihistamines, and two trials of prednisone, I've even tried an elimination diet for 10 days. At the moment I am taking Quercetin 500 mg 3 times per day, a B-50 Complex 2 times per day, Candestroy and 10 mg of Zyrtec 1 time per day. This keeps my hives pretty much under control but I feel like I'm popping something all of the time. I would like to take the smallest amount of vitamins/medication that I can get by with and still have the hives under control. I did stop the Candestroy for a couple of days but went right back on it when I started breaking out in hives again. I also feel that when I stay away from sweetened foods I do so much better. I'm wondering if I have Candida Albicans since the Candestroy seems to work and sugar seems to make me worse (my doctors don't believe in the "yeast connection")

I have just bought the Skilled Relaxation Workbook you recommended and plan to read it very soon. Its not that I'm a skeptic but I've known people to break out with hives when under stress but then they go away after they are away from the person or situation, what about those of us that break out in the middle of the night for no apparent reason like I did and then they hang around for months or even years. What can I eliminate or add???? I guess I'm pretty lucky, the last doctor said quite a few of her patients take several meds a day to keep their hives under control and 10 mg of Zyrtec is pretty darn good but I don't like to take any medication. Can you help me???

Hi Tanya,

Persistent hives are caused by stored stress in the hypothalamus gland. There is plenty of information on this in the archives about hives. Consistent 20 minute sessions twice a day of skilled relaxation for 6-12 months is the key. I quote Dr. Stoll "Let us know what you learn.".

Hi, Tanya.

Listen to Joanie (Thanks, Joanie!)

The one thing you can count on is that the Zyrtec will not keep working for very long. All it is is black tape over the warning light on your dashboard. Nothing wrong with using it so long as that is not ALL you do.

The SR is the most reliable way to deal with the LGS that is the mechanism behind this problem. See the archives not only about chronic hives but about LGS. Of course, C-RS is caused by LGS being present first.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
