I have had idiopathic chronic urticaria
since January of this year. I developed them after a bout with a sinus infection. I have had them ever since! I have been through the history case study with every Dr. I've seen. I have been taken off certain food, medications
etc. NOTHING! Sometimes the hives would get
SO bad my eyes would swell shut! Very scary!
I have been on predisone twice and the side effects
are HORRIBLE! I have a small frame body with a normal
weight of 122 to 125 lbs. I now weight 160 lbs,
thanks to presdisone.I have low thryoid and have
been on synthroid for the past 4 years. I was off the
synthroid for 10 days to see if that was the cause,
nope! I am now taking hydroxychloroquine, singulair,
zyrtec and doxepin. But at this point the only
thing that will keep the hives away is predizone.
In my quest to find some answers I have just
started a web site.

Looking forward to hearing from others!!!

Dear Debbie,
This is a totally unnecessary condition. Look at the BB for the past 2 months (all before that are in the archives (link with archives ).
Read the references suggested.
THEN, if you still have questions, write again. As you get well, please share your experiences with the BB participants so others with your condition will not have to suffer as you have. I think that everything up till now was listed under hives.

Dear Walt,
I am going into my 3rd year of hives so I can sympathize with you. If there is a cure out there please let me know.
I have been to my MD, a Dermatologist, and then the allergist, and there seems to be no reason as well as no cure.

Dear Dee & Dino,
This is a totally unnecessary condition. When you see how certainly it can be cleared, you are going to be angry at the "experts" you have paid your money to all these years.
Go to the link: Hives archives and read everything you can find about chronic hives. Also this has only been archived up to the past 2 months and there has been a lot of discussion on the BB since then. It may be worth your while to look there before asking more.
Be sure to read the references recommended if you do not understand just with the entries on this 'site---ESPECIALLY "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer" by Dr Pelletier. Once you understand the process and are ready to DO what you need to do, MY book would be helpful (link on this page).
THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Walt, I took your advice and went book shopping.....the only book I could find by Dr. Pelletier was "Sound Mind Sound Body".....does it have the information that I need or do O continue searching. I only went to two book stores and that were not the huge bookstores like Barnes and Noble.

Dear Dino,
Maybe you should try a larger bookstore. ALL bookstores have his MAH,MAS book in their "Books in Print" catalog. HOWEVER, they need to be willing to look it up. This has been a best seller for more than 20 years and the last edition I know of was about 1992. It is likely that there is a more recent one. The book you mentioned will not do the trick.

i wonder if dr. stoll (or anyone else) could say something on the subject of relapses. i've been following dr. stoll's wellness recos for a severe case of chronic hives for about 3 months with good success until recently. the last 5 or 6 days have seen a fairly severe reocurrance. this seems to happen occassionally but this time the hives are not going away again as before and in fact my be getting worse. very frustrating and certainly not helping my stress level. has anyone else experienced anything like this during their wellness endeavors? any ideas how long before symptoms really begin to dissipate? i could use a little encouragement about now.

Dear d.,
Wellness takes 6-12 months to resolve something like chronic hives. In the meantime, relapses do still happen but they should be fewer, further apart AND not last as long or be so severe.
I would have to know EXACTLY what you have been doing and for how long to advise you further.
One thing: If you have been doing VERY well with your wellness for a month or so, you become MUCH more sensitive to a relapse if you slip just a little. Humans seem to go through a period of INCREASED sensitivity for about 6 months at this stage. If one makes NO slips for at least 6 months, most people are then healthy enough that a little slip causes no problem.
Let me know EXACTLY what you have been doing. If you had a little slip (especially with diet) you are having exactly what I would expect.
Most people I know with this problem, once they start getting a lot better, tend to forget how miserable they were & are not QUITE so careful with their diet. When they are surprised with a relapse, they are always surprised at its severity. You have a lot of company if this is what happened to you. If so, take it as a lesson & go on with what was curing you.

thanks. i think i'm just getting impatient. in your experience is hives always dietary? i once fasted for 5 days and still had them. anyway the improvement with meditation has been dramatic. my diet hasn't changed much...low carb, whole foods (mostly), very little grains...and until now has worked well for me. i appreciate your quick response; you're doing great work. this site is the best.

Thanks, d., for your testimonial.
Your expereince with the meditation leads right into what I want to say about your question.
Although things in the diet frequently are the triggers to hives, they can only become triggers from the leaking peptides of leaky gut syndrome.
In the long run (and sometimes even in the short run) skilled relaxation is the most important single thing one can do. The main place for diet in the beginning is to do some elimination/provocation testing to eliminate some of the most bothersome "triggers".
THEN, after 6-12 months of the skilled relaxation, it would be worth while to test some of the foods that were eliminated in the beginning to see if the reaction was no longer there.
You are just beginning to see the benefits from the meditation-----KEEP IT UP!
Namaste` Walt
