DR stoll-
IN May of 2002 My doctor gave me my first depo shot and i was told that it would wear off in three months, and that i would not get my period during the time of the shot. about a week after recieving the shot i started bleeding again, i called my doctor and he said that this was normal(spoting) and that it should stop after time. three months passed and when it was time for my next shot i asked him again about why i was still bleeding, and he said that if it lasted to the end of the last shot that after this one i shouldn't get another one because my body may not react well with the drug. my last shot was up november 1st and today i'm still bleeding. I was never given a pap smear before i was given the pill or the shot and i choose the shot mainly because i couldn't remember to take my pills. Im mainly concerned because i have been bleeding for 8 months now and not only is it inconvinent but i have other symptoms such as weight gain, extreeme moodiness, frequent yeast infections, and urinary tract infections. My doctor attributed that to the increase of bactiera in the area, Is this really normal? Do you know anything over the counter that can reverse this? And Will this interfere with me being able to conceive?

Depo shots should be banned by the FDA.Mine gave me HORRIBLE side effects, and because it binds with proteins, I began to cripple and had psoriasis all over my body. Several docs in different specialties (not Ob-Gyn) have told me that they hate the stuff and don't prescribe it for the same reason.
The problem with these kinds of shots is that, unlike The Pill, which you can stop taking the moment you begin having problems, you have to wait for the crap to break down and get out of your body.
Good Luck, Stephanie. Of course you should make your own decision but I would advise against receiving any more systemic hormone administration.

well what i would do is to NOT get another shot and change doctors. all doctors are suppose to perform a gyn exam before putting you on any kind of birth control.. i think persoanlly that depo is a very bad thing to consider and the pill. but i wouldnt get any more shots and see if your period finally goes off. also when u find another doctor tell them u need a apt asap and discuss with them this problem....hope i helped..

Hi, Stephanie.
In MY opinion you definitely need a better doc. See the holistic practioner archives for how to go about finding a good one in your area. Anyone starting such a regimen, without a pelvic axam and a PAP smear, is no one I would be wanting to touch MY body.
Listen to Chante` and Yasmin.
Now, I want to get you thinking about how your "inability to remember to take your pill" has put you at the mercy of the allopathic monopoly. Do you forget to brush your teeth? Do you forget to get dressed in the morning? Do you forget to get up? Do you forget to go to bed at night? Do you forget to take your clothes off before going to bed?
Surely you can attach taking your pill to any of those daily functions. DISCIPLINE!
