Dear Dear Walt,

Since 3 years my husband and I are trying to conceive but in no vain. A year back I was told that i was showing infertility symtoms and need to get on provera and clomid as I had irregular periods. I read somewhere that clomid at certain dosage if taken for a period over 6 months gets cancerous, so I went to an Indian doctor (homeopathy medicine). Unfortunately this science does not do much researches on its medicines and the doctors claim that this medicine is free of side effects. Anyways after wasting a whole year I decided to try out the medicine my gyn doc. was most willing to prescribe to me. Since 6 months I am on provera and clomid and with a series of blood tests to check my levels and ultrasounds, I am still not pregnant. My question I guess is are these medicines really cancerous. I already have a handsome boy he will be 5 yrs soon, in hope of a second one, I dont want to get myself in any problem which will snatch my living years away from ;my son. Also I was told by my gyn that I cant take medications for treating facial hair problems while I am on clomid. So does this medicene for treating hair will effect my hair loss(baldness). I more important thing doc, is there any relationship between the problems i have with weight gain. I have been going to gym and is doing vigourous exercise(4-5 hours a week), I only lost like 5 lbs. Does any medication Iam taking help me retain my weight. Your help and answers are very valuable. God bless you.

Ali,

6 years ago I was diagnosed with an enzyme deficiency in my adrenal gland. My symptoms were facial hair, weight gain (about 30 pounds over 7 months with no change in eating habits), and irregular periods (once every 3 months). The enzyme deficiency was causing my adrenal gland to secrete too many male hormones, hence the facial hair and period problems.

I consulted an endocrinologist, who performed a series of tests to rule out Cushing's Diseases, Adrenal Hyperplasia, or a tumor, thankfully I had none of these. The end result was this hormone problem would only make me not able to conceive on my own, because of the irregular periods and high male hormones. At the time this wasn't an issue for me, I was only 23 and not trying to have a baby, just trying to find out why my periods were so irregular. I did not take meds for the facial hair, as I am very light and the hair is not noticeable, and I did not want to take hormones every day. I was put on the birth control pill to regulate my periods and this was successful.

So, in conclusion if I were you I would consult a reproductive endocrinologist. Also, have your thyroid tested, the weight gain could indicate it is underactive.

I am now the mother of a beautiful 18 month old son, the light of my life! Please consult the specialist, see if there is help! I wish you much luck,
Kristin

Hi, Ali.

Do either of you smoke or drink alcohol? What is your husband's sperm count?

Your very best source of what to do is in the classic book by Paavo Airola, ND.: "Every Woman's Book". It is available from Amazon.com just by clicking on the icon on this 'site.

If you both will institute the information in Airola's book, at least 2 years prior to conception, you will be successful. Let us know what happens so we can rejoice in your success.

Lisa, I was never given a "name" for what it is. The "extra" hormones are coming from my adrenal gland, or so the doctor says. I product too many DHEA and I think DEA hormones.

I am going back to the specialist, I want to be tested again, and also find out more, because I believe it's all related to my chronic hives.

Good luck! If you want to email me privately, please feel free. Maybe we can compare notes!

Hi, Kristen,

OF COURSE your hormonal imbalance is related to the same cause as your hives.

You, Lisa and Ali all have to start thinking about causes rather than looking for an allopathic diagnosis of what. You can be sure that no allopath will look further than giving you a specific diagnosis which can be treated.

We are not yet as smart as Mother Nature. Deal with the why and your bodymind will do a lot better than any of us Docs can.

Think about it.

Walt

But how do I find out why??

Oh, Walt!

The more I research this the more I find the hormone problem / hives are related.

I know I have an enzyme deficiency, which is the cause of my hormone problem.

But how in the world do I find the cause of the enzyme deficiency? It is in my adrenal gland, so what could be causing it to malfunction? Could it be stress, or related to LGS, Candida?

This is all so confusing to me, I never knew about this stuff until I found this site.

Congratulations Kristin!

Kristin - you are right on the verge of the ah ha breakthrough in your understanding!
Yes, yes, yes - it's related in the way that you're starting to see:
Stress (of any kind, whether social, psychological or physical [like chemicals, radiation, etc.]) causes the hypothalamus to "do its thing". This is helpful when you need the assistance of a "charged-up body" to respond to that stress. But if the stress is continuous, then the hypothalamus keeps sending out all the messages that keep all the stress hormones flowing (some of these come from you r adrenal glands) A chronic state of "charged-upedness" eventually starts to cause imbalance and even problems in the tissues that those hormones affect. The leaky gut develops from lack of blood flow, and then, when it leaks things into your body that are foreign, that can cause autoimmune problems.
This is all discussed in Dr. Stoll's book, but I know it can be really hard to get a handle on how it can affect SO many changes and problems in your body. It shows up in so many different ways, and varies from person to person.
It's important to understand, because that will make the DOING easier (whole foods, skilled relaxation (to discharge the stress hormones, and exercise) which is what helps you fight these problems
Keep on...

Dear Kristen,

Listen to Lisa (THANKS, LISA!).

The book that explains this connection, in depth, is Dr Pelletier's classic: "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer". Go to your library. The original sources are Dr Hans Selye's 40 years of original research about the effects of stored stress-effect in the hypothalamus. Dr Pelletier's work tries to put these findings into a form that anyone can understand.

If you can take this on faith, you need to first become a student of SR and practice it regularly as recommended.

Go to the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.

More questions?

Walt and Kristen,

Thanks so much to respond to my questions. God it feels so good to know that you are not alone in this world with this problems. Kristen yes i have done my thyroid testing and it is normal. Today something good happened and thought I would share it with you all. As you know I have been having an active life since 7 weeks with exercise and all, and after missing my periods for a month, I got them this morning with no help from provera. Now this is only because of my exercise or active lifestyle or because my doc had increased the clomid dosage to 100mg last month(july). Kristen i will check out about endo.. next week. My gyn plans to increase the dosage to 150mg next month for ovulation purpose so that i get pregnant. God forbids if that does not work then he will involve the infertily specialist. Walt, you are right about advising us to understand the Why's instead of what we should do now. To tell you the truth, I not 100% into this clomid treatment, for some reason I have a feeling that I will not get pregnant. But i have no choice??.

Thanks
Ali

Hi, Ali.

Think about this: Infertility happens for a reason and unless you do SOMETHING about the reason, your pregnancy has a much greater chance of not being normal even if you DO get pregnant with the Clomid.

Knowing what I know, and knowing what Dr Airola knew, I would be afraid of the Clomid being successful UNTIL I had done at least something about the WHYs. I don't think anyone would suggest that infertility is a Clomid deficiency!

Clomid just forces the ovary to release eggs. It does nothing about what your bodymind is trying to tell you about why it is being infertile. Think about it.

Walt
