hi. i'm 23. i had SEVERE cystic acne during my teens years. finally went on accutane at 19. cleared it, but went on a second course at 22 and am still taking it. besides that i have hirsutism (excess hair growth). removing the hairs causes these pimple like cysts to form. at first i was scared it was cystic acne returning but could it be from removing the hair?? follicitis (sp) or something like that? i'm trying desperatly to see an endocrinologist. so far it has been the money issue. one doctor wanted $550 for an office visit. is that normal for an endo?
i have mostly regular periods...1 a month with a week being the most i'm late. i have problems keeping weight on and am underwheight. i have a neurological disease and am confined to a wheelchair but i doubt that has much to do with it.
does anyone know about spironolactone? that is the medicine i'm trying to get from an endo (if i can find one i can afford). i've heard it gets rid of facial hair and acne because it blocks the androgens.
if anyone can offer me help in answering these questions i'd appreciate it. i'm not dealing well with all these problems and i'm mentally unstable and suicidal sometimes. i want to be normal for once......

Angela,
Please click on the link below to read a prior answer from Dr. Stoll about hirsutisum, spironolactone & Accutane (you'll need to scroll down a little ways to the post made by "Kerry" & then the reply follows from Dr. Stoll - though reading the entire page linked will give you more info).
Please also use the search feature and consider reading about SR (skilled relaxation) and essential oils.
Specialists certainly do cost a bunch. I'm not too shocked by this price (jaded from years of seeing specialists, I guess). You can learn a lot here for free. Check back for other replies.
Best wishes,
June

Angela,
Your experience is PRECISELY what I have been talking about with the causes of acne that most people do not want to deal with. Your acne was a warning that your endocrinological problems were coming. If only your docs had heeded the warning you would not be in the fix you are in now.
STILL, the only thing for you to do is to deal with the hormonal imbalance: SR and wellness.
See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.
