Menopause

Posted by Melinda on March 30, 2001 at 02:37:35:

I'm 47 years old and for the last half year my periods have been funny. First they would start out normal, and about the 3rd day they would stop, (I usually flow 6 days)then on the 4th, it would start up like it was day 1. Now, my periods seem to be coming every 22nd day instead of every 28th day. I these normal signs of the beginning of menopause? Thanks so much!

I'm 47 also. I have been going through same symtoms for 2 years now. The Dr. calls it pre-menapause. My Dr. suggested progest creme on a 21 day 7 days off. You only use 1/4 tsp. of creme a day. I was having 2 periods a month. Now I'm back to 28 day cycle. Progest can be bought in the womens section in health food stores. If you are having any other symtoms such as irritabilty, etc I heard that black cohash is great for menapause too.
Take Care

Hi, Melinda and Barb.

One of the shames of our society is how many women approach menopause without having any idea what to expect OR what, if anything, to DO about it.

I dont believe that these days. There is much written about menapause so that women can understand more about it. We are not in the dark anymore having to rely on just the Drs. say so. Its like anything else about the body, research!!!!!!! I would say that MALE Doctors are especially insensitive to this area!!!! There is a wonderful book out....I THINK its called "What you want to know about Menapuse, but you were afraid to ask"? Thats close to it. Its a GREAT book and VERY informative!!!!!
Good luck
Barb

I've just purchased a new book out by Dr. Christiane Northrup called "The Wisdom of Menopause". This is published by Bantam under ISBN 0-553-80121-X.

Dr. Northrup brings the whole mind-body relationship together with her background in obstetrics and gynecology, and being a past President of te American Holistic Medical Association.

So far it's been very informative. Maybe it would be helpful for you as well.

Hi, Carol

Christiane is a personal friend of mine. ANYTHING she has to say is OK by me!

I hope others on the BB will see your note about this valuable reference.

Namaste`
