Caused by hormones??? They are caused from your skin stretching too far!!! I have stretch marks on my stomach and breasts from 4 pregnancys and they do shrink some what (in width not length) and lighten in color but they do not go away! I WISH!!!

That is what my daughter's dermatologist told her. Retin A has worked wonders on my daughter's acne and scares. I don't know of anything natural, that will help with stretch marks.

I was wrong...at least from what I found, Dr. SToll did not say hormones, but he DID say that you can get rid of stretch marks...

I wish it was so easy to "think" (self-hypnosis) my stretch marks away! LOL
If that was the case we could all just think our Candida away and how about those laugh lines around my eyes and hey what about that nasty cellulite on my thighs??!! I'm not mocking you but rather questioning the over-all theory of self hypnosis for most people! I suppose it is indeed possible and may even work in some isolated cases but certainly it is difficult to achieve because otherwise we'd all be healing ourselves of everything!
Also the cocoa butter/vitamin E thing just doesn't work! I rubbed gallons of that stuff on my tummy but with each pregnancy the stretch marks increased in amount, size and length. Believe me IF there was a legitamate cure I'd be first in line! Oh well, I've learned to live with them and it hasn't interfered with my sex life at all! My hubby accepts me "as is", bless his heart! Maybe if we were'nt a nation of people who are all so vain and image conscious, it wouldn't be such a problem for some folks.

You mentioned:
Maybe if we were'nt a nation of people who are all so vain and image conscious
The correct sentence should have read:
Maybe if MEN weren't so vain and image conscious.

I have found in general that women tend to be more worried about their appearance than men. Its okay to take care of yourself and stay in shape but for too many women it goes WAAAY beyond that! I'm sure there are men that demand perfection in their womans appearance but the vast majority of the men that I know have enough sense to know that the air-brushed, glorified images of women in our society are not reality! I know a whole lot of women who go to great lengths to make themselves look better and ironically in some cases, more concerned about how other women view them vs. how men view them. Also women who constantly flaunt and flirt in some desperate attempt to draw attention to themselves and somehow feel better about themselves are incredibly immature and deceived. I have a fairly attractive and very muscline husband and women are always flirting with him and guess what... it turns him off and he finds it desperate and pathetic. My attractive yet gray-haired, wrinkled-skinned 68 yr. old mother is still incredibly vain and attention seeking and I wonder WHY??? You would think that after all these years she would of figured out that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that youth is fleeting and why get so focused on how you look vs. how you act and treat others??? Women have a looong way to go concerning this matter and have nobody to blame but themselves! Its a cop-out to blame men!

Hi, QT.
I hate to burst your bubble of what you thought you knew but "stretch marks" have nothing to DO with stretching.

I'm sorry Walt, but it would take a lot of convincing to get me to believe that stretch marks have nothing to do with stretching!
They appear when people's skin expands and stretches faster and farther than the skin can accommodate to, causing the skin to pull apart too far. This makes the stretch marks, which are exactly like the scars people have from cutting their skin.
Nothing can make them go away since they are scars. They get lighter, pearly white, but they are there forever. I had none on my belly until my first son went 2 1/2 weeks over due. At that point I had been stretched too far and got them on the lower abdomen. If they were caused by hormones, wouldn't they have appeared earlier?
Convince me, I am very curious as to your logic!

Kathy,
I tend to agree with you to a degree, however, how do you explain the fact that some people get them and some don't? I have two children and only have a few stretch marks. I could wear a bikini (if I were skinny enough :o) and no one would be able to tell I had kids. Whereas my daughter-in-law has a roadmap on her belly. Neither one of us are real thin, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. I did rub cocoa butter on my belly both times. Coincidence? I don't know. Walt?

I have some on my butt and to a lesser degree my outer thighs, and I have never been fat nor had children...
I have a friend with the same scenario - a buttfull of them - she's petite and also has never been fat...how would you explain that?
AND, Joanie's story of those who do and those who don't get them...that also raises the question about whether or not stretching is involved.

Well, I may be wrong...but... if they aren't due to stretching why does it generally happen to people who 1. gain weight 2. get them on their belly during pregnancy??? My son has stretch marks on his arms and chest and hips since gaining a lot of weigh so its not just a woman thing. My daughter who has large thighs and buttocks has S.M. in those area's but no place else on her body. Why do I only have them on my breasts and stomach after getting very large in those area's??? I've never seen anybody with stretch marks on their face or hands or places thats don't generally get fat. Why do some get stretch marks and others don't... my uneducated guess would be different skin types react differently. Apparently some have more skin elasticity than others. So if "stretch marks" aren't from "stretching" please explain what causes them!

Hi, kmd.
Sorry to disappoint you but it is not MY logic. The truth of this has been suspected for about 50 years and KNOWN for at least 20 among professionals.
There are many cases of normal weight people with adrenal tumors who have the exact same stretch marks. WHY, if it is simply from physical stretching does it not happen with every person who gets fat and every person who gets pregnant? Both fat and pregnant have profound hormonal changes though.
