Dr. Stoll:
Can you please explain to me why I tend to have leg and back aches a few days (3 or 4) before I start my period? These aches seem to often come on pretty quickly. Ibuprofen will usually take care of the problem, but I don't like having to depend on the ibuprofen. I am on the pill (Yasmin)and have been on this particular pill for about a year now. I have been on the pill for a total of about four years. Prior to being on the pill, I had heavy periods and bad cramping, leg and back aches. The pill seems to have taken care of the heavy periods and cramping, but not the aches. Any thoughts? Sorry so long!

Hi, Sunny.
The regional hormonal effects of the menstrual cycle not only changes the circulation pattern of the pelvic organs but the muscles that pass though the pelvis. See any anatomy atlas.
The chances are that a good, deep, therapeutic massage, right about the time you would normally expect this to start, would abort it for that time.
If this is so, you could eventually (about 6 months) eliminate it completely by practicing serious SR.
Let us know how you do.
Walt

Thank you for your quick response, Dr. Stoll. I'll try the massage and let you know what happens. I'll also check into the SR. Thanks again!
