Hi,
I came to this board looking for help on an injured toenail - I dropped a table on in and the whole nail got crushed and eventually came off. In the course of growing back, the cuticle area got infected. It hurt so much! Instead of going to the doctor and getting antibiotics, I followed the hot compress protocol here. I wasn't even able to do it as much as is recommended - 4 times a day, I did it more like 1 or 2 times a day, but my toe is already better. Thank you so much, Dr. Stoll. You saved me a trip to the doctor and unnecessary drugs. I appreciate it.

Thanks, Alphabet.
The real question is: "Why is this not taught in grade school?" Why don't docs tell their patients this instead of grabbing for the RX pad?
Namaste`

It would probably depend on the Doctor...I have always been told to soak an infected toe, finger, etc. unless you see a red line going up from the infected area.

Thanks, Barb.
When there is a red line it is even MORE important that hot compresses be used. It is just that it is late in the process (The hot compresses should have been used a lot earlier.) and antibiotics will be needed to help. If the individual is admitted to the hospital, one of the first things that will be ordered is hot compresses every hour.
It should not depend upon the doc! It should depend upon knowledge of physiology and immune processes which are taught to all of us very early in our medical training!
