I've been trying to find out about subaceous cysts on the
Internet and your site has been the most
comprehensive. I read about prevention and treatment
in the glossary and archive pages, but I have a
question about whether a cyst is infected. I have had a
growth on the side of my neck for a couple of years.
Recently, it enlarged, becoming red and sensitive.
Does that mean it is "infected" and what kind of health
care practitioner should I see for treatment (a
dermatologist or surgeon)? In the meantime, I will try a
hot washcloth.

Hi, Jessica.
That is EXACTLY how you tell if it has become infected and the hot compreses are your best treatment. If you do it as the protocol suggests, and it is not better in 24 hours, you may need your doc to help.
