underarm deordorants

Posted by skunky on October 10, 2002 at 23:54:36:

my problem started when i switched from my regular deordorant to a deordorant that i thought would hold down odor and perspiration alittle better,it has been five years now and any kind of deordorant makes my arm stink i have been to dermatologist and they perscribed cortizone cream and drysol
the drysol keeps down the sweat but the ordor is still their
this problem has made me extremely depressed the deordorant crystals don't work for me
could the cortizone creams harm your skin if used excessively

Hi, skunky.

See the body hygeine archives and then ask what you do not understand.

Hey skunky, are you interested in changing your diet if necessary? If so, what do you eat? (Details please!)
Also, how much and what type of plain water do you drink, and have you had any kidney troubles that you know of?
I am thinking more of the origin of the stink as opposed to covering it... But if you don't feel like going there, feel free to disregard.
best to you

Hi skunky,

Well, if you love the drastic like I do, you could chuck all that restaurant food and go on a whole foods diet and do some body/organ cleansings (which in fact did take away my and many others' stink).

If that's not practical or not what you want to do, you can try some other things. First, keeping your kidneys and bowels clean and free flowing is a must. A big part of that is water intake. A good rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 liter of not hot, not cold water for every 50lbs of body weight per day (150lbs=1.5 liters of water). Always drink 1/2 hour before meals or 2 hours after, but only a few ounces with food if necessary. Start the morning with a lukewarm water with the juice of one lemon. This will clean out the digestive system, get the liver, bowels and kidneys going.

Stay away from coffee, black tea and soft drinks. They contribute to an acid environment, which causes stink. (Ever smell the breath of someone who drinks lots of coffee?) Don't smoke. It contributes to blood stagnation and clogged lungs. You want blood flow and oxygen flow.

The stink is giving you a big clue that what you are putting into your body is "trash". I used to work in restaurants, so I learned to find the healthiest items on the menu. Look for fresh foods or freshly cooked. Stay away from hydrogenated oils (all things fried - fries, wings, fried veggies etc., sometimes sauces etc).
I'm guessing you eat a good portion of meat/protein? You might try experimenting with the amounts to see if you notice a decrease in the odor. For example try eating one concentrated protein a day instead of 2 or more for a few weeks to see if you notice a difference in the odor. When ordering meat try getting roasted or baked whole filets or birds. Eat a wide variety of veggies and as fresh as possible! They will clean you out. Try to find a restaurant that serves whole grains or whole rice. In general, make your meals a protein with vegetables or a carbohydrate with vegetables.

My rule of thumb was never to eat at (or work in) a restaurant that served head lettuce salads. Non-head lettuce places are more likely to have fresher, healthier selections.

You can do many, many other things. In general, look to get things flowing - more urine, more feces, more sweat, more oxygen! But you should notice at least a decrease in odor strength by experimenting with these few suggestions.

Best to you

Right on, thessa!

I did not get into this since so many people accuse me of doing this all the time. Perhaps they will listen to you.

Thanks Walt. Actually, I'm with you, I think most people really don't want to hear/do the long of things. I didn't get the impression that skunky was interested either, but explaining really helps my own learning process so much that even if noone else gets anything out of it, I sure do.

best to you
