Hey Walt,
I play basketball and I sweat really bad under my arms, and as you can imagine, even with deordorant, it smells pretty bad. If I shave my arm pits...will I sweat less? I remember back when I didn't have hair under my arms, I didn't sweat at all...so I'm thinking if I shave my arm pits, I won't sweat(as much). Am I right? Please let me know before I shave, haha.
Thank you.

Brandon,
Back when you did not have hair under your arms, you probably had not reached puberty yet. Once you reach puberty, you perspire a great deal more.
Bathing daily with an anti-bacterial soap does seem to get rid of the bacteria that cause the oder. Use a washcloth, and try soaping and rinsing twice.
You would still perspire alot if you shaved. But using an anti-perspirant (not just a deoderant) will reduce it somewhat. The solid kind is good, you don't have to wait for it to dry.
Also, washing clothes with a detergent like Tide with Bleach Alternative, kills more of the oder-causing bacteria in your clothing. This also works well with towels and sheets.
I hope this will help.

Hi, Brandon.
You have bought into the crap the antiperspirant companies have bombarded us all with on TV!
Until puberty (hair) no one has any sebaceous glands. They are the ones that secrete pheromones and it is that lure that makes us attractive to the opposite sex. Fresh sweat does not have an uppleasant odor. On the contrary, it is atractive to the opposite sex. It is only after the bacteria on the skin, who live on sebum (the product of the sebaceous glands), vent their waste products, does the odor begin. In other words, B.O. is from germ poop.
Have you noticed that little kids never have B.O. even if they have not bathed for days? Well, this is why!
See the body hygeine and antiperspirant archives for how to deal with prevention of B.O.
Let us know what you learn.
Walt
