Hi, Vicky.
Her doc is doing the right thing. Pheochromcytomas are pretty rare but they are a curable form of hypertension. So far as I recall they never are malignant so the approach of careful deliberation is the right one.
It takes only a tiny one to cause hypertension so it could even be hard to find at surgery. I would not be surprised that an MRI (basically a pretty gross instrument--although the best on we presently have for structural problems) could miss it.
Let us know how she does.
Walt
