Hey Vince,

I'm not a doctor so can't give any advice regarding the high blood pressure. Good for you to be cautious about it. I was curious about how you are measuring it though; do you have a home measuring device or is your doctor taking the reading? While working as a Field Service Engineer I was repairing a printer in a doctor's office and my partner took a reading on me which he told me was high. This was at quite a stressful time in my life, not surprisingly. If you had a home measuring device it would be interesting to take it with you to a biofeedback specialist and see what the reading does while you try to get to the "relaxation response".

Regarding being Different - a Professor in school once told me to keep thinking differently (I had approached a problem in a completely wacky way) because that is how things get invented.

DiskMan,

I measure my BP at home and geting a little tired of doing
it and since it has to be done with the cuff on bare skin
it will be a pain in the cooler weather taking y shirt off.
I already have to lower radio And TV that is usually on and
put on reading glasses.

I usually try different ways of solving a problem once
I try the Normal ways. Like I said I am Different. Guess
that's why it gets frustrating when I see people accept a
problem or cause one just doing what is Accepted belief and
say that Nothing can be done or you just have to Live with
it.

I try to sort through a problem. A simplier way to measure
would make things easier.

HoundMan,

That is good that you are able to check it at home, even if it is not too convenient. I personally know of 4 people that have died from cardiovascular related problems in the past 6 months; two were in their 40's and two in their 60's. One guy had lost like 150 pounds and had gotten into marathon running; he died in a ditch. I guess "No Pain, No Gain" is not the principal to apply if you suspect cardio problems!

Disc,

I never worried much about my heart till i was injured and
nothing worked right and I had to take salt just to function in the
heat and my dad cut out salt and had a heart attack 5 mo
later. Since I have found things that have given me strength
and energy after 12 yrs of hurting when I did anything
physical I want to make sure I don't create a problem.

Jim Fixx and John Kelly who rowed buth had heart attacks
and Adell Davis a health food writer died young so makes you
wonder who has the answers. I am trying to figure what is
important and what I can do physically without harm. Reading
that the spread in the #'s is more important I wonder what
is really important and after it seems I had a circulation
problem from my injury I don't want to do the wrong thing
and it is easy to strain chest muscles lifting weights or
geting involved with any of the physical things i used to do

Hi, Vince.

It is NOT the presence of sodium but the imbalance between it and the missing minerals (about 70 of them) that have been removed from "refined salt". SO, changing to mineral salt will help in a year or so. Taking a mineral supplement (crystalline or ionic form--should have about 70 minerals in the liquid or tablets) would speed that up considerably.

Also, how are you doing with your SR? This is the most important, single thing, for resolution of moderate and mild hypertension. For severe hypertension (above 200/100) it still will help but medications might also be necessary at least till the above controls it.

Let us know what happens. If your pressure is not normal in 1-2 years, I would be VERY surprised. In the meantime, if your pressure is below 170/95, it would take about 20 years before your arteries were damaged enough for you to have symptoms--SO you have plenty of time.

BP questions...

Still working on lowering my BP and like everything else
it can get confusing. I have had luck bringing it down but
can't figure exactly what works since i take so many things
so trying oeducate myself on what Really can happen and why
and just read about a study that said that the difference
between the 2 numbers isn' as important as the spread and
the less that is the better and that meds can widen that and
be worse for you. My dad had his heart attack while on meds
and cuting out salt and I think my problem has come since my
injury so I may not respond to the drugs as expected like
I was backwards in the effects of sinus meds and one that
raises BP and makes your heart speed up was puting me to
sleep after waking but the one also sold as a sleep aid would
allow me to stay up.

With my lack of aching from physical activity even when
lifting weights I want to continue and loose weight and try
to get back in shape so don't want to push hard with a high
BP so it is a concern and of course every chest sensation
makes me wonder and it is easy to strain muscles especially
being so out of shape and my hounds can be a handful trying
to drag me after what they want to chase or a different
situation comes up that I don't expect or am too drained
to anticipate after walking them.

Just don't want to screw up and not sure a Dr wouldn't
especially with my problems so like to know the facts since
they have been Really wrong in my situation and I've had
enough problems they couldn't solve or tried to take me in
the wrong direction and I had to figure out the problem and
the cure. Being Different doesn't help.
