Hi Dr Stoll,
I was facinated to read that low bp often preceedes high bp considering my own situation. I was prescribed sodium tablets in university for dizzy spells and a bp around 100/60. When pregnant last year however I developed preeclampsia at 22 weeks and while I amazingly made it to 35 weeks I had a very high bp which got worse after the birth going to 180/120 whilst taking 120mg tablets of Adalat Oros (with a few shots of hydralazine thrown in for good measure). After about 3 months they did a 24 monitor and concluded I was still boarderline hypertensive but I begged and squealed to get off the drugs and have been treating myself with exercise (This may offend some, but the best exercise seems to be sex - I have taken my bp 5 minutes after and it is around 105/60 which is great for me!!)and diet since then. This has been going well and I still have higher readings when stressed (145/80) or at the doctors but am ok when relaxed.
I just received your book yesterday (a mammoth feat to find living in Australia) and have already finished it. I actually ordered it due to the fact that I have had a number of extra health issues since taking the Adalat - I have had hives since I STOPPED taking the Adalat 3 months ago, my legs are very mottled and purplish (as was the case when on the Adalat)and I get bruises from nowhere. Blood tests have shown nothing but an iron deficiency. I went and bought whole foods today along with omega oils, ester c, b complex and a potent multivitamin and I have begun meditation. So I'll keep you posted on my progress!
By the way could the Adalat have caused some of these extra problems or could my lack of sleep over the past 6 months have been the tip of the iceberg.

Hi, Fiona.
Tip of the iceberg is likely. What did your package insert tell you?
Sounds like intracellular magnesium deficiency is at least a part of your problems since that could participate in every one of your stated conditions. You can find a good "down under doc" by contacting healthcomm.com and having them give you a list of docs in your area that have subscribed for at least 2 years.
Let us know how you do.
Namaste`
