Interstitial cystitis

It's been a while since I have visited Dr. Stoll's site. I found it a couple of years ago and immediately bought his book. I was browsing the site today and was touched by the continued despair of IC "victims". I was diagnosed eight years ago. I was 40 and thought my life was over. I was in a vicious cycle of pain meds, bladder dilations, and intra-bladder instillations of chemicals. The pain was so bad that a pre-malignant ovarian tumor was almost overlooked. My Doctors thought the pain was from the IC. DR. STOLL'S SKILLED RELAXATION WORKS!!!!!! It took a little while, but if you stay with it, you WILL get relief. After 6 months of twice a day SR, I no longer suffer constant IC symtoms. As a matter of fact, for a year and a half, I rarely have any symtoms at all. It takes a lot of stress and no skilled relaxation time for the IC to flare-up and it is never very bad. My Doctor says "It just seems to be going away."
ALL OF YOU WHO ARE SUFFERING WITH IC, PLEASE TRY DR. STOLL'S RECOMMENDATION OF SKILLED RELAXATION. IN MY OPINION, IT IS THE ONLY CURE AND YOU CAN BE CURED. BE PATIENT AND RELAX. My thoughts are with you all and you do not have to live with this terrible condition.
Note: My ovaries were removed and I have no threat of cancer.

How wonderfull to find your post while waking up reading at the computer this morning.
After the last two morn waking almost in tears with my knee's pressed to my chest I felt like giving up.
I have had two really bad nights, days, with a lot of pain.
I really needed to hear what you had to say.
Thanks for taking the time to come back here to post and for giving me hope that I'm on the right path.
Sure means a lot to me.

Hi C.J.,

I don't exactly know what I.C. is, but I used to have recurrent bladder infections when the good ol' docs had me o.d.ing on antibiotics. Sometimes, I thought I had a bladder infection, but the test would come back negative for bacteria.

But, I still had pain, especially when I would stand up and stretch. One thing I found helpful for the pain was a hot water bottle (not a heating pad, the moist heat seems to work better) in between my legs (on the crotch area-trying not to be graphic) and over the bladder.

I would alternate positions when one got too hot to handle. I don't know if it will work in your case, (or be harmful for that matter) but in my case it stopped the spasms that caused some of the pain and I was able to sleep in peace for a while.

Thanks Donna,
I have never used a hot water bottle for my bladder but sounds like a great idea!
I'll give it a try.
Thanks again, CJ
