Constricted passage between bladderto ureter

Posted by sam xavier on October 15, 1998 at 10:03:28:

I am from India. My wife who is 54 years old has the following problem:
1.She has kidney stones of 1.5cm and 6mm in her kidneys. 2.
Further there is retention of urine, in the bladder/sac next to the right kidney leading to the ureter, to an extent of 10 - 15 %.

Doctors here suggest that it could be due to the artery/blood vessel/vein which is supplying blood to the kidney is pressing
against the ureter entrance which is right below the bladder/sac . In the x ray (IVU) taken the portion below the bladder/sac and a part of the ,
ureter, for a distance of 10-15 mm is not visible in the x-ray image.

Could you enlighten me on:
1. Whether this is the problem?

2. Medical papers suggest-
a. ureter courses behind and medial to IVC
b. ureteral obstructionr subcardinal vein
Is this the problem?

3. The probable methods/procedures to be adopted to tackle this problem.

This opinion is sought, as our urologist/nephrologist has suggested a operation to correct the defect of
the blood vessel/artery/vein which is now above the ureter, to be placed below the ureter, and at the same time to remove the
stones.

I would be obliged, if you could give your valuable opinion, as at the moment we have postponed taking a deceision till we get atleast two more opinions.

Kind regards
Sam Xavier

Dear Sam,

With the information you have supplied, surgery is the right answer. This is an example of where conventional medicine has its place. Where it does not is with the chronic diseases they do so poorly with.

The only suggestion I would have would be for her to start at least 4 grams of esterified vitamin C, 1000 units of vitamin E and 100 milligrams of zinc, daily, for 2 weeks before the surgery & for 8 weeks after. This can cause no harm & world literature now substantiates significant stimulation of post-operative healing using these substances.

Let us know how she does. Walt

Surgery was carried out on 13.12.98. There were two calculi and a kink in the puj. Calculi was removed and a stent was introduced at the kink.
My wifet is back at home today the 21st. I am so grateful to you Dr. Stoll for your advice. We had your opinion along with our surgeon and the advice was really timely as the infection had started in the kidney. I will keep you posted.
Regards
Xavier
