Dr. Stoll, just thought I'd report that after about 7 weeks of skilled relaxation, I no longer have menstrual cramps. Also, a very painful varicose vein hasn't bothered me for over a month! (The bad news is I still have insomnia, but I wanted to let others know about the good news.)This works! Aimee

I'm very glad you wrote in with positive results with skilled relaxation. I suffer with IC and am on my fifth week now. This is what I've seen:
1. Sometimes several hours of absolute relief (6 hours once and I'm not dehydrating myself).
2. Days where I have no relief at all.
3. Much better sleep, I go to sleep easier and get up far fewer times. used to be every 2 hours, the other day I got up once the entire night, never done this in my lifetime.
4. More relaxed overall.
5. More comfortable driving, feel more relaxed and more alert.
6. More alert later into the evening, not wishing for bedtime.
7. Can turn over in bed without triggering bladder spasms. So it allows me to relax more and be comfortable. This was a huge issue for me.
8. I'm not spasming after intercourse like I used to. I was always sleep deprived so lovemaking at bedtime often didn't appeal and furthermore afterwards I'd have to get up 2-4 times before I could get to sleep so it was rather exhausting.
9. Need everybody's encouragement to keep this up. It's hard to remember how good it is during the bad days.
I'm grateful for this bulletin board.

Dear Vicki,
You are having remarkable results for so little time. Remember, I said 6-12 months for resolution.
One way to chart your progress would be to write each day's experience on a big calendar. You will be surprised at how much progress you REALLY are making.
The passwords for now are patience & perseverance.
Congratulations on your progress! Walt
