Follow up: IC and contraceptive ring

Posted by Sandy [2365.4] on September 08, 2004 at 07:59:27:

A while back I asked wether people with IC had tried the contraceptive ring, and how it had been. Now, wiser after trying Nuva ring I say DON'T DO IT!!!!! After one and a half days I chucked it into the rubbish bin, and by then it had made my IC worse. When inserting the ring you're not supposed to feel it, but I couldn't quite place it so that it would've gone completely unnoticed. A few hours after that my urethra started hurting badly. I hoped this would just be my body getting used to it (as if) but it just got worse. I also got really nauseos, got a headache and nearly threw up. The next day the pain was still there so I just threw it away, but the damage was already done. My urethre was REALLY sore. Also, a friend of mine who doesn't have IC tried Nuva ring, and LOST IT!!! She inserted it, didn't feel it and was completely happy, until she realised it had disappeared! She didn't know when or where, but propably in the toilet, since apparently it can slip out unnoticed.
I really wanted this to work, and I'm sure it can for someone, but especially if you have IC I don't recommend it.

Hi Cindy,

Be glad that you don't know...
Some have it and are suffering without a diagnosis.
Unfortunately there are some doctors who think it is
a psychological problem because they can't find a bacteria
to treat.

I'm so sorry to hear of your bad experience. I hope that your symptoms subside soon and that you feel much better. I hope that you have some pain meds or other things (hot water bottle etc.) that help you with the pain.

I am in a bad flare myself right now - have no idea why, just the mysteries of the IC disease - and have called to schedule an appointment to try Interstim. Sigh. Lord help me.

Blessings, Isis

Dear Isis, I'm sorry for your pain. You've propably already tried a 100 things, but I find that a foot bath is wonderful when I'm in pain, or feel very stressed. I have one that also massages the feet and it makes me so much more relaxed. I usually use very hot water and add some aromatherapy oils, like lavender, or citrus ones if I need to get energised. I'm pretty sure this would be good for anyone, especially with IC/problems in the urethra. An ordinary bucket with hot water also works, but doesn't quite give the pleasure a foot bath does.
I hope you get better!
Sandy

Sandy, thank you so much! I do find a hot bath very soothing, and my hot water bottle is my best friend!
I hope they find a cure for this disease someday, one that works for everyone.

What I found most horrifying was finding out that I could not even take pain meds long term -they irritate my bladder so the pain eventually overcomes the ability of the pills to stop pain. How awful is that, LOL?

Anyway the next step for me is Interstim, because I've tried everything natural and unnatural under the sun, LOL. I will try to be hopeful that it will work and not leave me worse off than ever.

Blessings, Isis
