Interstitial Cystitis and sex

Posted by Juli [2364.1399] on February 16, 2005 at 14:01:42:

I am in a terrible bind. My interstitial cystitis goes into remission as long as I keep my sex life down to like x2 weekly. The problem is that my husband and I love sex and often have it 3 or 4 times a day, which gives me symptoms. It is so sad that we enjoy sex sooo very much, but that whenever we have a very active week, I am in pain for days.

This is no joke, would like suggestions. ARe there positions that would not irritate the bladder? WE prefer sex together. thanks, Juli

Hi Juli,
Have you heard of something called d-mannose? It works extremely well at not allowing bacteria to stick to the bladder, urethra, etc. I take it the moment I feel a twinge of a urinary tract infection, and it's worked every time at keeping them away. (I know your question is more about cystitis and not about an actual infection, but I thought this might help you.)
I also have suffered from bouts of IC but have found a great deal of info on this site as to how to cure it. If you haven't already, check out the article that Dr. Stoll wrote about IC - lots of good info there about bracing, which is maybe what's happening to you during sex? Kegel exercises before and after sex really help me with the bracing in that area.
I also drink a TON of water every day, which seems to really help the IC symptoms.

Hope some of this helps you,
Amy

Hi, Juli.

Are you regularly orgasmic?

Walt

Walt,

Yes, but they are constricted orgasms, I have to tighten all my muscles in my legs, etc. to reach it. ARe you saying that maybe I should have more orgasms to release the tension which may be causing the pressure down there? THanks, Juli p.s. He he, gotta say I love this site because we can talk about anything on here, thanks!!!

Yes, Juli.

I would suggest that you learn how to give in to having deeper and more releasing orgasms. Both of you read the Kama Sutra or the Tantra of Sex. You can also read Lonnie Barbach's "For Your Self"

While you are looking things up learn about the "Pelvic Congestion Syndrome'.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Here's a suggestion that's a great "trick" to help you get there and have more relaxing orgasms. While you are having intercourse, stimulate your clitoris at the same time with your finger(s), at least for a little while.

Squeezing your legs together like that can really tense everything up and perhaps leave you not so relaxed after you've finished the orgasm. You should be totally relaxed when you're done.

Hope this helps!
Naya
