Dr. Stoll-another question about IC......

Hi Dr.Stoll,
I've researched the archives on IC and was hoping you wouldn't mind answering a few questions. I understand that you feel the only way to truly permantely rid oneself of IC is through SR. I've been spending a lot of time researching and talking to others who have their IC under control. Things that have helped heal these people are: following an alkaline diet, dealing with food intolerances, and dealing with the candida, parasites, etc.if present. The unfortunate part is that many, especially those with candida problems seem to need to stay on pretty limited diets indefinitely to keep the IC under control. Mainly eating meats and veggies and either VERY LIMITED or no whole grains and very little or no fruit. Is this a healthy enough diet to be on long term? I know you recommend, "The Healing Power of Whole Foods" for advice on the candida diet. The recommendations in the book are much less restrictive. Then I've read many others say that everyone is unique in how restrictive of a diet they need while working on candida. I just tend to wonder if many with IC on average tend to need to be more restrictive for whatever reason? Did you ever see this pattern in the individuals you treated with IC?
Also, in addition to IC I also have very high ANA's. (Have had light joint achiness and more recently pressure and slight pain in my lungs) My rheumatolgist keeps mentioning I need to keep being tested to watch for further signs of Lupus. I read Lupus is 30x's more prevalent in people with IC. I know without SR, one is much more succeptable to candida and leaky gut. I just can't seem to figure out in my head if it is mainly a bracing problem why it is much more often connected to Lupus. I'm not doubting that it is a bracing problem for many, but I just wonder if my situation may be more complex to deal with? I tend to wonder if my particular issues with IC are more related to the autoimmunity going on in my body. I have been following a WFD and I have been doing SR, but not as rigid with the SR as I need to be. Do you think with my health history, it will be harder to bring under control and rid myself of the IC issues? I hope I'm not coming across as trying to challenge you. I have much respect for your opinions and have learned a great deal from this site. I was just hoping you could help make more sense of this for me.

Thank you kindly,
Jill

Hi Jill,

Your story sounds a lot like what Dr Mirkin's wife was dealing with.

A high ANA ia s sign of infection.. anywhere in the body. it could even be Lyme Disease that is causing yourRA symptoms as well.

The fact that you are seeing a rheumatologist tells me that there is more going on than a bladder problem.
Have you had a lab culture done on vaginal and urethral
swabs, a urine culture, or a broth Culture?

Here are a couple of links which should help you to sort this out.

You may want to print these to show your doctor.
If it doesn't get you more respect, ask for a referral to an infectious disease doctor with experience in Lyme
disease. Good luck

Thanks, Jill.

As I have said many times on this website: "There are many pathways to the top of the mountain!"

I emphasize SR mainly because it is the one thing that is most commonly missed by the allopathic paradigm and, in MY experience, the most lilely thing to actually resolve it permanently.

If you seem to need a more "scientific" approach, get the biofeedback probe that goes into the vagina or the rectum and focus directly on relaxing the levator ani muscle. In the long run this may be quicker to relieve the symptoms but may not be as permanent a solution.

If you want to try the many other helpful hints others have given be my guest and I hope one of them will help. In MY experience, without resolving the basic contributing cause, bracing of the levator ani muscle, the symptoms are likely to recur in a year or so.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

Thank you Ron and Dr. Stoll. I checked out those links Ron you suggested and found them very interesting. I just read another link in regards to taking antibiotics. I'm just nervous about creating a major yeast issue. I still wouldn't rule it out though....As always Dr. Stoll, I respect your opinion and will commit myself more solidly to the SR:)

Thanks again for your comments,
Jill
