My boyfriend got a flu shot a few weeks ago and 1 week later had his first outbreak of herpes. I have had herpes for 15 years and when I got a flu shot 2 years ago, I also broke out a few days later. Is this coincidence or does the flu shot bring out the herpes. My boyfriend's doctor said the two were unrelated, but I believe there is a corelation between the two. Your opinion please Walt and anyone else.

I think there is some relation to herpes virus & flu shots also. But my experience was just the opposite of yours.I'm 55 years old. When I was younger, I had cold sores at least 4 times a year. I took a flu shot and pneumonia vaccine when I was in my early thirties and I have not had a cold sore since. I've always wondered about the connection but have never read anything on the subject. I guess we will never know. Carol

Hi, Stella.
In my opinion, there definitely IS a connection.
I will bet, though, that the docs would be happy to accept credit for Carol's experience.

Doesn't surprise me. There've been numerous cases reported about side effects of various vaccines. Too numerous to mention. http://www.whale.to/vaccines/flu2.html.
