anti-immunization rights

Posted by Peggy on June 15, 2000 at 10:05:08:

To anyone,

I'm about to put my 3 year old in preschool twice and week and they're going to want immunization records. Does anyone know how or who I go to to get this waived. I will not immunize him; no religious reasons, I'm just against them.

One center said that I'm to have the doctor waive it. I have a hard time imagining that happening.

Anyone know what to do?

Thanks.

Peggy:

Those I know who've elected not to immunize got the appropriate form from their child's physician. It was the state-required form with the doctor's signature and indicated no dates of immunizations since none were done (though some parents I know choose part of the recommended immunizations).

Your rights vary from state to state. Some states allow only medical waivers. Other states allow for religious or even "personal" waivers. Post your question to these Autism Message Boards for more information. Many of the parents there elect not to immunize as well. Here are the sites:

http://www.autism.clarityconnect.com/autboard/

http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi

On this second one, choose "specific neurological conditions A-Z", then from there choose "Autism".

If I had more time this morning, I could locate my more direct links regarding immunization laws. Because my son is austistic, I have had to find information on this as well. Don't worry, these MB people will get you there. Good luck!

Hi, Peggy.

I think I covered this exhaustively in the archives under immunizations. You DO have options!

If not, let me know and I will do it again.

for more vaccination information...

Look in archives under "vaccinations" - it is not there under "immunizations"

Thanks, Kathy.

There is not even a section for immunizations. I appreciate your catching the error.

Namaste`
