Swine Flu Vaccine & Pregnant Women

My daughter-in-law is 3 months pregnant and her obstetrician is strongly urging her to receive the swine flu vaccine when it becomes available. I am concerned about her and the possible risk it may pose to the baby. She has already received a regular flu vaccine because her doctor told her that pregnant women are more likely to develop pneumonia if they come down with the flu. I don't trust the doctor's opinion, and I would like to hear anyone on the Board's thoughts on this matter.

I wouldn't even take an aspirin when I was pregnant- vaccines?-no way!!

I will bet that you will have to "sign off" on any flu vaccine to absolve the doc and everyone else of any problems that might arise.

My suggestion would be to begin a definite program of healthy living (3LS) and avoid crowds--along with frequent hand washing--things you should be doing anyhow and cannot possibly harm you. With winter (and the heating season) coming on, humidification is critical. See the colds article on the home page of this 'site.

You will see no research about any of this because no one can make a lot of money promoting any of it.

Since my wife and I became "social disease aware" and stay out of crowds, sick people wash our hands and carry bottles of 91% alcohol to clean our hands when we can not wash we have not been sick in years.

Purel is good, 91% alcohol is best and cheap
