Where have all the healers gone? How can we know the spirit movers and
shakers these days? They dance on mats with printed footwork and chant
their heady theism of ad campaigns and Oz promises. Is there even one who
knows the current phase of the moon? Who will heal us?
Are these the same old souls, the same old cast that danced by firelight? A
shaman call roll in the old school way echoes in mostly empty rooms today.
The profession has left the hill and dale and headed for the sparkling new
buildings. Take a number.
The taller the building, the farther the feet are from the ground, and the more
distant is the source of the healer’s calling. Dim is the sound of the earthen
spirit to the sycophant of science, and distant is the first available
appointment.
So we turn to unofficial, self-styled, slapstick prophets of the obvious,
hocking snake oil from their medicine wagons. Costs more than the
deductible and co-pay!
After the wonders of science (which are miraculous) and the promises of
charlatans (which sometimes even work), and still we ail, what? Where will we
find an eye to see beneath the morphing surface of our collective Legoland?
Who will save us?
It’s the Pogo Paradox, “We have met the enemy…” Smiling after all, that in
the end, healing is a mysterious gift beyond names, bestowed by the Great
Power found behind closed eyes, midwifed, perhaps, by a gifted one, or
revealed by the innocent grace that is always at our door. It is within. (Insert
your favorite words of praise and supplication here). I like Yea Oh yea!

Thanks, Jim.
Reminds me of the saying: Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto God that which is God's"--or something like that.
You have brought up exactly why I have always said that BOTH the magical and the scientific must be combined for the best approach to human health.
I hope that is making sense to you.

Hi Jim,
Beautifully said as always. I always wonder what happened to the "old world", anything "grass roots, falk, old fashioned, little huts, barns and wodden churches, country stores and mom/pop shops. The old world charm left us forever. It's the world of cellular phones with built in computers, miniature TVs and fast cars. Oh, how I miss the peace, lifestyle and simplicity of the "old world".

Yup,Nice!
The healing vibration some of us choose to call God,is always there Around Us, Within Us, and we have Access to it always!
Natually inherant within us is the Perfect Blue Print for health;
It is Done Unto us as we Believe; Now what do we believe right now? [do we really want ot use the old consciousness?]
An Awakened Consciousness-Clarity of Mind-in this Moment is all that matters; We then attract to us all that we need to assist us, which includes people on this board ect-or a caring Doc. to remind us-like Walt;
Another way to say it;

You should write a book - or compile what you have on this board at the very least...
What about YOU. Share about YOU and not observations (though I enjoy the observations) I am intrigued by you; what makes you tick? :)

Hi Jim,
I have a bit of a rule of thumb when it comes to healers/gurus. If they're charging me money for spiritual guidance beyond overheads or a reasonable living, I won't buy into it. Or if they're giving Madonna special treatment over ordinary folk when it comes to 'spiritual progress', same goes.
Practitioners making a living is okay, but bigtime commercial fa$$$tbucks like what'shisname Robbins - Robbings! Who would pay thousands for a minute or two's neurolinguistic programming?
Sorry, but same goes for all those CDs of vibrational music. A CD of music is worth what, around $30? Why are people paying hundreds of dollars for some sound on CD?
New era highway robbery!
I'd rather keep the money, thanks, and donate it to a worthy environmental or charity cause!!! Much more spiritual, surely, than the modern-day equivalent of helping buy Bhagwhan Shree Rajneesh his 27th Rolls Royce. At least Rajneese was making a salient point about irrelevant,cashed up western culture at the time!!!
I was invited to a yoga class the other week - it was held in an airconditioned room under fluorescent light. It was awful.

As Bhagwhan Shree Rajneesh Sheila from the Orange people use to say "TOUGH TITTIES"! ;-)
I agree with you that there are some unscrupulous people out there charging way too much for these "healings", and with very little qualifications to go with the huge price tag.
There is a healer I use to see who charges 110 dollars per session. The healer is good, but is it worth paying that much for an hour, I don't know.
I was considering also buying the second level of Centerpointe, but that too is way expensive. Sounder mentioned about awakened minds CD that produces very similar effects for maybe a tenth of the price.
I think we got to use some commonsense when it comes to the New age movement.

my healing has come from figuring out how to compensate for or reverse damage which isn't an easy task and many times I just got lucky by trying things and hit on something that worked. The recent therapy for strokes that uses focused movements to the beat of a metranome reminds me of something that I did that I to try to get me to be able to continue typing without loosing my train of thought and drifting off. It was what I heard, Mel Tillis, the stuttering country singer say, that Dr's told him to speak to the rythm of a metranome to distract his brain. It only took trying a few times to teach or condition me to solve it.
I got some healing or stress relief this AM by heading to the park after the sun came up. Got to see a great blue heron perched on a railing. I didn't know that their feet could manage that. Spooked it so didn't get to gaze at it or find out where it went and didn't want to hang around too long, wanted to get home to listen to the end of the ambient music show that I find Very relaxing. Sounds better at home than in the car while driving. More relaxing and I get to rub my hound.

Hi Walt,
The older I get, the more I am humbled by our journey in the jumbled
opposites of life. We are united. We are alone. There is snow at both poles.
Practitioners can do health to us, or they can guide us to allow healing to
happen. Both are valid. Our own personal responsibility is the constant. We
surrender and strive at the same time on the back of the tiger. Might as well
smile, eh?
I salute that spirit in you,
Jim

Thanks Wow. Nostalgia is a seductive muse who loves to stretch the truth.
Things seemed so much simpler in our youth. Probably each and every
generation has thought so, and so will future ones.

Thanks, Terri-Lynn. My attempt to capture this in words was pathetic. The
only thing I know about the “Great Whatsit” is that it defies description and is
most clearly revealed in numinous personal experience. Next best is story
telling and poem.

My boring self is way too far OT, but I will be launching a family web site this
summer and will post the address when I do.

Hi, J.
The same thing is true of the "old age" system. If you need more convincing, see the "kickback" article about the pharmaceutical companies and practicing physicians in today's New York Times.

Nice Jim-We all express it differently but many times are saying the same thing; It is good to express it with many different modalities, [poems are great] because we can see it collectively with many view points. To me this is what this board is about.

The Ego nature has interfeared with our true balance, but it is still at the core of all of us-some of us choose to call this God; We also attract to us what we put out; Clarity bring clarity and it is up to me to see it to have it; There is a power in the universe beyond the 5 senses;

Fantastic-said great beautiful!
I've moved around the world doing laying on of hands in the past and i never believed in charging for God's work. I was amazed at how people donated when i needed to go some place ect; Now if i added accupressure or breath work to it then there is a suggested donation; I feel as most of you have said, ego gets involved and it can change everything and the results; Thank you everyone on this board for caring enough to offer your services to others;

We long for the simple times, but the past seems simpler because we were
young and because we forget a lot, and also we idealize the eras before our
time.
The present is more complex than the past, even if we are happier in the
present than we remember being in the past. No escape!
We are a wistful lot!
