What does the cat know?
Hunkering about the house
In her nighttime nooks,
Silent in her favored spots,
Sometimes here, sometimes there,
For unseen reasons,
Purring in the Nagual,
Sphinx-like and declawed,
Perhaps dreaming of the chipmunks, lizards, and birds
That scamper and flutter
Just beyond the glass doors,
On the patio that is her zoo.
She walks across my keyboard,
As I hunker with her this night,
Back and forth, back and forth,
Scattering gibberish across the page,
Until I shrug, resigned, and rise to feed her.
That is how she hunts at night these days.
Satisfied, she returns and sleeps
Peacefully in Pop's rocker,
A warm, predictable, comfortable place
For an old cat.
I wonder if she, too, entertains romantic notions
Of prowling under the waning sliver of a moon,
On a cold February night.

How goes it with you? Cats are so wonderful.
Best wishes,
Jan

It needs to be published somewhere...
Ever thought about a book of your works? (Unless you already have something)
I am so interested in your creativity. Does the creativity "hit" you and you write, or is it that you make a concentrated effort to write, and the creativity is secondary?
What makes you tick? :)

when i couldnt get to sleep:
once, a ticking clock would echo in my head,
keeping me from silent sleep
now, it's reliable pattern is a lullaby
distracting me from the torments in my mind
bobbing along on an angry sleeping sea,
oh to delve beneath the waves
and experience the depths of serene, and calm
slumber wonderland.

You should be writing songs... your stuff always sounds like a melody to me.
Are you in a creative job/college focus?

Lovely, Jim. It sounds like she knows how to get your attention. I'm sure she just wanted her foodies so she could do her lunar nap. Sweet old kitties are the best. I have all youngsters now.
Sweet dreams, kitty....

Thanks, Jim.
You have brightened my Valentine's Day.
I am a dog lover partly because cats are beyond me.

They prefer it that way, Walt.
"Foodies", Nutmeg? You have me laughing over here. Yeah, She's a good old
girl.
It's only little doggere, Michelel, only in this case, catterel. What makes me
tick at this point, is mostly just momentum (and a little of the downhill
gradient).
Thanks, ukchris. I appreciate night noises too.

Hi Jan,
I'm mushing along that endless tundra known as the second semester. June
is still beyond the horizon.
We're down to our last cat and probably won't get another until we settle on a
retirement spot.
Perhaps, when the time comes, we'll pay you and the aspen a visit.
Jim

Hi Jim,
Yes, summer does still seem very far away!
Retirement? When will that be? What kind of spot are you looking for? Let me know when you are coming this way. I greatly look forward to meeting you and your wife!
Best wishes,
Jan
