Seasons Within Seasons

Posted by Jim H. [503.2003] on August 11, 2005 at 07:23:57:

So many “some days” have yellowed and fallen to the ground. They crunch
underfoot in the crisp, clear autumn time of life, and the sound of it adds a
joy to the somber, nostalgic season that so beautifully marks the ebb of life.

It’s all about seasons in this great planetary Rube Goldberg we inhabit, isn’t
it?…that, and stillness, silence, and the “Great Whatsit” within all.

Hello Jim:

Some of us feel this way as another birthday approaches, but the eloquent words that would convey the feeling are oftentimes missing. Still, the optimist in us never fails to look forward to the next "some day"......Hey, it's not your birthday, is it?:-)

Hi Steve:

Yes, I realize Jim is a grandfather (or about to be). But his words brought up thoughts of birthdays past:-)

No, I'm not getting older...much.

Is this about your dad, Jim? All these realizations can lead you to something good. Keep seeking and musing.

To Steve: I summered in San Diego (will be leaving this weekend) caring for
Father (you probably missed my July 24 post) and awaited the birth of Jack
Gallaway Sample, six pounds fourteen ounces of miracle. I know I said I’d
write you and discuss personal health issues, and I will, one of these days.
It’s another one of those “some day” leaves, like the web page I was going to
do this summer.

For the compliments, thanks to all, it pleases me to know the words have
meaning to others.

You are all right, I think. The inspiration comes from the experience with
Father, yes, and grandson Jack, yep, and my stroll through my own personal
autumn in the same city where I attended college. Who was that kid?

And something else. The words are about the Source that unites and binds
us as we make our way, mostly unaware of It, on our private little Escher-like
mobius strips we call our lives, incessantly chatting all the while. The words
celebrate the self with the capital “S”. I call it the “Whatsit”, and I only know
some of the things it is not. It is not our thoughts, and words only hint at it.
It is not the material world, but the material world is “of” It, and It permeates
all. For me, It can be found in unexpected, unplanned moments, in
meditation, and most especially in the revelations of aging.

I better stop. I am starting to sound like some guy from the Himalayas!

Jim

Jim, the best way I found to get along with grandchildren is to ACT LIKE AN IDIOT..They love it and so will you..

So when my grandkids scream, pa-pa sing a song, I come back with Boom, boom, ain't it great to be crazy..Followed by laughing and rolling on the floor..

Pay no attention if you see your daughter rolling her eyes, saying the old man has lost it..Just enjoy, its your right of passage..
