Dr. Stoll,
I am a 34 yr.old male. I had my first encounter with kidney stones. I've had severe pain. The doctors have given me pain medicine, and a strainer. It has been about 2 weeks and my pain comes and goes periodically. I've not passed anything yet. I am wondering if this is normal? Is the stone safe to be in me this long? Is there anything I need or should be doing? They took an x-ray and said it was a pretty large stone and they didn't think I could pass it on my own. Yet they are not doing anything about it. I look forward to hearing your expertise advice. Thanks Dave

Hi, Dave.
MY guess is that they are just waiting for you to complain enough and they will then shatter the stone with ultrasound.
In the meantime, if you start having a fever or burning on urination, the blockage has caused an infection in the kidney and NOW you have 2 things to treat.
I would insist on the ultracound before you have kidney damage from back pressure.

My grandson got kidney stones while he was in a body cast and they were going to go in and remove them. He drank tea made from fresh parsley and started passing gravel. When he went in for the surgery there were no kidney stones. His mom just boiled parsley in water for ten minutes and he sipped on it all day long, maybe a quart a day.
Sure worth a try.

Someone recommended lemon Crystal Lite (manmade fruit drink)
in the archives.
