Hi,I will try to make this as brief as possible. I just finished my 2nd lithotripsy about 4 months ago, I had a few small stones [calcium oxlate]in both kidneys and one in my urter tube. I also went through this 6 years ago. This time my urologist has been doing tests.A 24 hr urine showed a calcium level of 580 also high sodium and uric acid levels. He put me on a low sodium, purine and calcium 400mg diet for 2 weeks. He also did a hypoparathyroidism test which came back fine. After the diet we re- did the 24hr urine and my calcium level only came down to 475 still too high. Sodium was down to normal but uric acid was still elevated but he said we wer'nt going to worry about it since I show no signs of gout.He studied my test results and said I have malabsortion of the intestines. He put me on Hydroclorothiazide and have to go in in 2 weeks for blood test and another 24hr urine.I also had graves disease about 17 years ago after a pregnancy, they treated with the cocktail pill then went hypothyroid and have been on synthroid ever since. My reg md who is conservetive always says my thyroid levels are within the normal limits.I have been told this normal limit is in the 2.0 to 4.o range [tsh] my last test it was 4.75.My nurse practioner said this is the low end of the limit [hypothyroid] and she believes my dosage could be raised a little. It has been at 150mcg for 17 yrs.Is there any correlation between the two? I have gradually gained weight since my thyroid disorder 17 yrs. ago and am now 70 lbs too heavy.Never had a problem with weight before this. To add to all of this I use a c-pap machine to sleep as I suffer from severe sleep apnea. I am getting tired of being so unhealthy at not a so very old age [39]All my doctors have no really concrete answers for me, they just say it happens. I need more than that. Another opinion would be nice

Hi, Gracie.
ALL of your problems have been caused by the same basic metabolic problem. So long as your docs insist on treating only the tips of your iceberg, your future is even more hairy.
The first thing you need to do is become an expert of a different way of thinking. For that, the fastest way is reading a copy of my book. THEN, if you have more questions, write again.

Is there a test that can be performed to show calcium level, if so what does it consist of and what is it called?

Yes, Terry, there are many.
For the complementary medical practitioner, each one tells her something different about the place calcium is playing in that person's metabolism.
To the strictly conventional physician serum calcium tests tell him practically nothing.
It is the balance of many trace minerals INSIDE the cell that tell an advanced practitioner what we are learning about this.
Just try asking the conventional physician about the difference between "metastatic calcium" and "metabolically active calcium". Watch her dissemble.
