Dear Walt and Susan,
Are there times when taking an antibiotic for a kidney infection is a good idea? My symptoms are interfering with my life, and with my attempt at wellness, for example, not getting a good night's sleep, and head aches, and lethargy. I'm not looking for an antibiotic so much for a cure-all, I'm looking for a REPRIEVE, so that I can get my stress level back down, and my system, and sleep back to normal. Part of me is wondering if this infection has anything to do with the food poisoning I had, since I have not had a normal bowel movement since the food poisoning. Also: Walt, is there a urologist you can recommend in PGH, Pa? I want to fight this off as naturally as possible, my stress is causing my immunity to fall, I know that, and it must have already been waning to begin with, but I think the food poisoning threw it over the edge. Susan: what exactly is mannose? and what were your personal experiences with it? Thank you both for your time!!!!~~~~~~~~Pee'd

Here is an article about Mannose and explains how it works.

It's a natural supplement that will get rid of UTI and kidney infections in most cases. You have to understand that I was, just like you, firmly convinced that antibiotics were the key to my recovery constant UTI's, and all they did was create even more problems and they did not even touch the infection. BTW, I have been to Mayo Clinic for this, so I have been seen by all the top-notch doctors. I have learned the hard way. Realize that if you go through the antibiotic route, you may have even more problems that you started with, and then, you only have yourself to blame. I could kick myself for putting my body through all those antibiotics.
All I know is that the Mannose healed my bladder and stopped the UTI's. It's worth is weight in gold to me. I wish that I had found it before I had taken 7 months of antibiotics and messed up my immune system and liver.
Think long and hard before you go the antibiotic route. Good luck!

Susan -
How much of the Mannose did you take to clear up your infections? And how long did you have to take it?
Thanks - Beth

I've been doing some research on the net regarding Mannose, and I do plan on getting some. But, I generally don't have problems with e-coli (only sometimes after sex). I have enterococcus and yeast problems. Did you say you had different organisms? And did it help them all? Just wondering because all of the articles I found said it wouldn't work on other kinds of bacteria.
I'm going to try it anyway, I just wondered what you thought. I also noticed that there is a company doing research on mannitol for general bacterial infections in the body as well. Just and FYI.

Yes, you can have an infection and have no bacteria show up. You take a 1/4 teaspoon 4 times a day, and it took about a month to clear it up. I don't remember where I bought it--some place off the internet. It's just an herbal supplement, it will not hurt you. You take it when you start to have bladder or kidney infections.

This appears to be the cheapest place on the net to buy mannose. It's relatively hard to find.
