I am 43 yo and play soccer. Recently I have developed a dull pain in and around my R knee. I feel pain behind, on the inside above and below and on the outside below the knee. X-rays show minimal damage. Could this be a varicose vein problem? Should a 43 yo be playing soccer (what are the longer term effects on my knees)?
What treatment do you recommend? I'm resting for a few weeks and hope the problem goes away.
Thanks,
Ron

Soccer is a fun sport, and it can be a good cardio workout, but it has a high injury rate relative to other sports. Knees are a common target for injury. Be careful.

Hi - I'm a personal trainer, pilates trainer and have owned a dance studio for some time. Soccer and almost any activity for a 35+ is going to have some more injury - but not because of what you are doing now always, but what you did in the past - with people like us, who have remained active, we end up seeing the wear and tear on our bodies at this time... I would just take it easy, and not give up unless your sports therapist asks you to do so. Pain is never good, but neither is atrophy of the body and soul!
Ps. You sound pretty hot - 43 and playing soccer! woo hoo! :)

I got rid of my knee pain in 3 days. Find a GOOD Chiropractor and use some DMSO.

Hi Ron,
I would have it checked out with a sports medicine specialist.
Best wishes,

Hi, Ron.
Listen to Happygal, Stan, Lincoln and Michele.
By the time something shows up on xray, there already has to be pretty severe damage! When interpreting an xray of the knee, "minimal damage" is an oxymoron.
I think it is time for you to say to yourself: "Well, I have had all those years of soccer fun and now it is time to protect the knees I have left by taking up serious swimming."
Start glucosamine until you can see the sports medicine specialist and let us know what you learn and how you do.
