Four years ago I was kicked in the knee by a horse. I was crouched down behind and to the side of the horse, and the horse kicked out and hit my knee square. There was a loud pop when I was kicked, and my my leg from my knee down went limp. After a few minutes I was able to walk around, with moderate pain. The pain didn't last very long, but my knee was swollen on the inside for about 3-4 weeks, and I could only bend it after about 3 weeks. My knee only hurt the first couple of days after the kick. I should say that I got an x-ray but nothing showed up. Since then my knee has been fine, there have been some days where I can "feel" the inside of my knee. It is sort of a light dull pain, but I can just feel the inside of my knee, if that makes sense! In the past month or two my knee has started being painful, and if I am on my feet a lot or horse back riding a lot I am starting to feel it at the end of the day, and also when climbing stairs. It is my left knee, and the pain is behind the knee cap, going up and to the outer left corner of the knee cap. There is also some pain in the lower right hand corner of my knee that has produced pains (sometimes sharp) going down my inner shin.
Any clue what is wrong with my knee, or whatever it could be, is it worth seeing a doctor to get some sort of treatment? It has *very* rarely bothered me the last 4 years, but as I said just in the past 2 months or so it has started being painful, and the pain is more frequent. Instead of a little pain a couple times a month, I am feeling it 1-2 times a week now (the pain occuring all day long).
Thanks for any help!

Hi, Courtney.
This is probably osteochondrosis of the posterior surface of the patella--secondary to your injury.
Have you had another xray?
If I had this, I would only do underwater exercises till this is healed for a year or so. I would also start 2000 milligrams of omega 3s twice a day, 750 milligrams of glucosamine sulphate twice a day, 2000 milligrams of esterified vitamin C twice a day and at least 400 units of mixed tocopherols vitamin E once a day.
Let us know what you learn and how you do.
Walt

Courtney, I would also look at removing NiteShade foods from your diet..Start with potatoes and see if that doesn't help..It will take 1 to 3 weeks to clear your system..Works for me..Silver Fox!
