crunching knees!!!

I am 25 years old and my knees began to make a crunching sound when I was seventeen. I was competetive in cross country, Track and Field, and Basketball in High School. Recently the noise has been getting worse, but I have no pain at all. I just went to see the Doctor and have had X rays completed as well as blood work to check for RA. I am waiting for the results, but am a little nervous. Do you think I have RA???

Hi, Jen.

Osteochondrosis of the posterior patellae.

Look it up and let us know what you learn.

Walt

Dr. Walt, a orthopedic surgeon just diagnosed my "crunching" with achiness as Chondromalacia Patellae. My understanding is that after years (I am 40) of running and other sports, I have roughened up the underside of my knee cap. He is recommending a scope procedure to smooth things out...

Thanks, Steve.

Now how did I know that from here :o)?

If I had this, before I opted for any surgical procedure, I would first start glucosamine 750 milligrams twice a day and omega 3s 3000 milligrams twice a day while doing underwater exercises, and avoiding weight bearing exercises (including walking up or down stairs), for at least 6 months.

If you go this route, let us know how you are doing in about 6 months. Your doc will be amazed and you will likely be spared the long rehabilitation needed whenever the knee joint is opened.

Walt
