Dear Doc
I am suffering from an array of knee complaints and would be most gateful if you could give me more info.
I have been diagnosed as having chondromalacia grade III and have had my patella shaved, but the problem is getting worse as far as I'm concerned, also I have osteoarthritis grade II-III in the medial joint of the same knee. I suffer a considerable amount of pain and swelling, I have had two Yttrium 90 synovectomies which failed to have any effect and have just undergone a surgical synovectomy.PT has been ongoing since the date of injury, I would like your views on the possible outcome if the chondromalacia cannot be halted and on the OA, this whole thing has been the result of an injury to my medial meniscus and an ACL reconstruction about two years ago. In February 97 there was no sign of either of these problems although the synovitis was present, but by July 97 the OA had appeared and the chondromalacia was present, surgery was performed on both of these dates so we are not relying on Xray's for these diagnosis' I would be most grateful for your comments.
James.

Dear James,
Many factors will determine how much better you can get. Go to the Health Coaching link to see the kind of information I would have to have to competently answer your questions. If you are willing to do it publically, here on the BB, I will do it free. My main purpose is to help as many people as I can with the time I have. Many people have the same story as you have, YOUR experience as you improve would help others see that they are not "doomed".
In the meantime, go to the archives & read everything you can find about arthritis, chondromalacia, fibromyositis, etc.--
including references.
Walt

I have been diagnosed with chondromalacia after doing aerobics for 10 years. I started feeling alittle bit of pain while exercising & then it got so bad I could barely
walk.I did not know I had subluxing kneecaps until I went to see a orthopedic surgeon.I have had physical therapy and take antiflamatory drugs.I can speed walk on a treadmill & lift light weights.I wear a neooprene brace on my knees & I always have pain.I used to play tennis and I feel like an invalid! What can I do to ease the pain?

Dear Marcy,
This has been discussed several times right here on this BB. To save me typing and time, please go to the archives. THEN, if you have more questions put them on the BB with Doc Dave in the title to draw his attention.
In the meantime, find a local under water exercise class and avoid any other (weight-bearing) exercises as much as possible (walk when you have to and rede as much as possible.
