Dear Dr Stoll,
I am 18 yrs old and I have got cartiladge problems in my knee. I recently had an operation where the doctor removed a large amount of cartiladge in my right knee and as a result I am no longer allowed to play soccer.
I recently heard that they had legallised cloning in England and USA.
Now my question to you is that if you can go through an operation where they can replace your cartiladge (by cloning or any other method) and if you recommend it. I spoke to my doctor who mentioned that you can get AIDS by doing a cloning operation. He did not want to explain it to me in detail as he said I would not understand. If that is the case, please tell me the side effects of this crucial operation.
Please e-mail me on: isacson00@hotmail.com, as stated above.

Thought I heard that Stem cells might be able to
regenerate things. Maybe I have that wrong.

Hi, Mikael & Vince.
Both these technologies are still in the development stages and will not be ready for human clinical use for years.
The doc who told you you could get AIDS from cloning is pretty ignorant about the whole thing. Until he knows better it would behoove him to keep quiet and learn.
Cloning uses the individual's OWN cells. Therefore it could only give AIDS to the person IF that person already had AIDS.
The AMA is beginning to believe it's own propaganda: that it knows all without studying it. Just the MD gives the holder permanent omniscience for the lifetime of the holder.

Dear Dr. Stoll,
Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. Since you said that they are still in the developing stages of this technology I guess there isn't much hope left.
My question to you now is if there is anything at all that can be done so that my cartilagde can be replaced or anything at all. I am still young and I am thinking of going back to my sport since the doctor told me I can play as long as it doesn't create any pain.
If I decide to go back to play, what can be the side effects. I'm willing to play as long as my knee will function as it does today, only if whatever will happen to my knee won't happen right now, but for about 20- 30 yrs from now. If that's the case, please give me some further advice of what you think I should do and if there were to be any side effects. How can they be treated in a medical way?
Once again, thank you for your last reply to my question and I hope to hear from you soon. You have been a very useful source to me.
Thank you!

I would look up prolo/sclerotherapy on Webmd.com since they
say it can rebuild cartilage and call it Regenerative
therapy. I know it helped my mom and friends who mostly had
back problems but one had a knee problem. It may help.

Hi, Mikael.
Vince has a suggestion you might check out. I have no experience with this.
There are (I think) plastic inserts that can be implanted to help protect the bone surfaces. only your surgeon could advise you about that.
Let us know how you do.
