Hi, Marlo.

First of all, when a generalist is stymied about the diagnosis it is his RESPONSIBILITY to refer you to the appropriate specialist without delay. An accurate diagnosis is the most important thing you need!!!

ANY inflammation in the area of the knee will cause swelling beyond that point. Your degenerative changes in the knee are enough to explain your symptoms AND if nothing is done about those causes you will eventually HAVE DVT and THAT is a more serious problem.

My suggestion, until you can have an accurate diagnosis, is to start the essential oils on the home page and 750 milligrams of glucosamine sulphate twice a day to reduce the knee inflammation. Next, as much as you can, keep your foot higher than your hips for every minute that you can.

I wonder what has to happen before your doc would think that referral WAS "necessary"?

Finally, regardless of what your final diagnosis comes out to be: Losing about 40-50 pounds will help a lot.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
