arthroscopic surgery recovery

Good morning!
I had arthroscopic surgery on my right knee eight weeks ago. I had a miniscas tear; not too serious of a tear. The procedure I thought was minor. The surgeon said I was thrashing during the procedure so I don't know if this is complicating my recovery.

However, eight weeks later I still am unable to walk correctly. Yesterday was the first day I was able to walk up a full flight of stairs without dragging my leg up. After sitting at my desk (or anywhere) for 15 minutes or
more and then getting up, I am not able to walk and end up shuffling for the first minute or so. I did not have this problem before. As I do have osteoarthritus I have had stiffness, but nothing like this. Also, I am in my mid-50's. I am overweight, which I know has some bearing on
this.

I've been doing physical therapy at the center twice a week for a month now as well as doing the exercises at home. Range of motion is pretty good and I definitely know the muscles in the area have been strengthened as it is so
much easier to raise from a sitting position.

I guess my question is, Is this stiff leg problem common? What type of exercise can I do to overcome it? How long is reasonable for me to expect complete use of my leg again? I am trying to be a patient patient but.....

Hi, Carol.

How are you doing with your rehabilitation PT exercises??? You make no mention of them and they are absolutely crucial for the recovery following such a procedure!!!!

I do not think you appreciate HOW MUCH your weight is aggravating this problem,

What have you learned from the archives about knee, about arthritis and about bracing?
