Dr Stoll, my dad is 78 and in superb health. The only medication he is on is for high blood pressure. One of his knees are real bad, he can barely walk. He is thinking about getting knee surgery done. Is it wise for him to get it at this age? Is it a painful process, and would it be beneficial to him? Thank you

Hi, Terrie.
Even though knee replacement is now very successful, there ARE serious (possible) complications and he would have to be faithful in his physical therapy and home exercises from then on.
Only his doctor can decide if he is a candidate and he must thoroughly explain the pros and cons to him while YOU are in the room to ask questions. It would be good to tape record that session.
