pain in right side and loose stools

I have had loose stools for a few years. I had my gallbladder out almost 2 years ago. The last week I have been having a slight pain in my right side and I am terrified! My father had colon cancer at 60 years. I am 43. I am scheduled for a colonoscopy next Tues. I am feeling like there is something very wrong and Im so worried I cant sleep. Does having pain like that always mean cancer? Any words of advice is appreciated.

No, abdominal pain does not always mean cancer.
Blood in the stool that you cannot see (occult blood) means a problem. A change in bowel habits may be significant.

A slight pain in your right side could be many things, probably nothing serious. For example, your right ovary could be releasing an egg. Someone with a medical background would have to question you more thoroughly to determine what may be going on.

If you are scheduled for a colonoscopy, will you have to have a bowel prep? (You take a laxative to clear out the bowel so the doctor can visualize the gut. This will probably be the worst part of the colonoscopy.)

I can see that you're worried because of your father's history of bowel cancer. You don't say why you have been scheduled for this test, but please try not to be so anxious.

Good luck on the test.

I just got my period today and am hoping that was the problem. My right side was aching alot this week. But I am still having more strange pains on my side, under my ribs, and down by my ovaries. I get a stomache ache after I eat that really concerns me. All of these sypmtoms my step father has had and he is fighting colon cancer. My dad had it over 8 years ago.
I do have to drink the stuff and we got it today.
I have 3 kids at home that need me so I am so worried. I hope I sleep tonight better than last night.
Thank you
Sherri

Hi, Sherrie.

The odds are that you are now experiencing the truth of the fact that surgical removal of the gallbladder does nothing about WHY the gallbladder was sick. You have had LGS all these years. Putting tape over the warning light on the dashboard (GB removal) has not resolved the problem (LGS).

A colonoscopy is indicated and will probably be normal. This is probably your iliocecal valve leaking (use search engine).

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Sherri,

Sorry you're having these problems, however, others are more than likely suffering the same things. I had my gallbladder out back in 76/77 and have complained off and on of this pain in my side for a few years, along with shoulder pain.

Chiropractic sessions helped me tolerate majority of the time. Since returning to allopathi doctors I have been unable to get an honest answer. The closest I came was from my gastroenterologist who ordered a blood test to see if I possibly had any gallstones stuck in the bile duct off and on through the years. At the time of the test, there weren't any indication and I haven't had this pain for several weeks. The past being the worst attack.

I took "iliocecal valve" and searched on google.com and located a website you might be interested in viewing as well. I went to the home page after veiwing the first page and clicked onto gallbladder. There was more information there which you might benefit from as well. Hope this helps, and BTW, your guestion helped me learn more myself.

Good luck and I hope the link works.

Question for Dr. Stoll

Can LGS or illeocecal valve cause pain in my right side?
I have never heard of LGS or the valve. Its all new to me. I also have had my glands in my armpits ache. I have no fever. Just wondered if it could all be connected.
I did not want to get my gallbladder out. I searched for other alternatives and didnt find anything. But in the back of my mind I knew later I would.
Can you tell me where to go for more information?
Thank you very much.
Sherri

Hi, Sherri.

So, this is all new to you? Boy do you have an interesting and satisfying time coming!

First of all always go to the glossary for any unfamiliar terms. THEN, go to the archives for more information.

Let us know what you learn as we go. Start with LGS (leaky gut syndrome).

The colonoscopy turned out normal. I am so relieved. But I still have the pain. Can LGS cause pain? It feels like a burning pain. I will be having a pelvic and pap Thurs.
I will look up LGS and find out more. Thanks for all your help.
Sherri
