Indigestion

Had Nissen Fundoplication surgery for reflux, was completely horrible: extreme bowel pain, bloating, indigestion, etc. etc. Had surgery reversed. Now am refluxing regularly [hiatal hernia] but my main concern is my everday multiple BMs to start the day. Seems I have to empty entire bowel every morning. Had upper and lower GI study. Of course evidence of reflux and a few pollops removed. Seems I especially can't tolerate any [zero] fat. In surgery they cut small gastric vessels, is this the reason for indigestion? Now will I suffer indigestion for the rest of my life? Am taking digestive enzymes [to compenstate cutting of small gastric vessels] and oat bran for fiber.

This morning BM problem has been going on since reversal of Nissen Fundoplication in 97. With Nissen Fundoplication [and of course small gastric vessels already cut, removed in 93], had extreme [extreme] discomfort in bowel. Now I am relieving bowel pressure with BMs.

I had the nissen fundo surgery a year ago. I had two of them, the first one was not tight enough, so with the second surgery, I had my belly cut wide open to have it done. Surgery was hell. I didn't think that this surgery had did a thing for me, but now a year later, my lesions in my esophagus are finally healing. I suffer all the time from indigestion. I have tried about every drug out there. I think I have found the wonder drug over all medicines I have taken. That is NEXIUM. I believe with my heart that because of this drug, it is the reason why my esophagus is finally healing. I have a hard time sometimes swallowing. I still get acid reflux, but after all this time, I am just now showing signs of healing and getting better. Try Nexium. Take it first thing in the a.m. It is great!

Rick,

Sounds like you have been through the ringer. Those are terrible symptoms.

Dr. Stoll is actually a very compassionate person and all he is trying to get you to see is that you need to take your health into your own hands from this point on. Ask your surgeon about what he did inside of you and what kind of effect it could have from now on - only he knows exactly what he did with the knife.

Only a wellness program managed by yourself will get you on the road to recovery from this point on. All of your symptoms can either be managed or eliminated with a wellness program - why not invest some time and effort into that? It will cost you next to nothing and will help you tremendously more than any surgeon could ever make enough money to. That's all he was saying.

And besides, a wellness program is incredibly fun, empowering and educational. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope it's wellness, you deserve it after what you have been through.

Surgeons are very willing to talk to talk to you before surgery. Afterward is not the case. I can only hope that my body will heal itself and somehow, someway compensate for the damage that occurred. Am now taking digestive enzymes and fiber. Am juicing. Am considering doing the gall bladder/liver cleanse and subsequently taking Milk Thistle for awhile. From then on taking care to eat better and more healthy......and praying. I know I must forgive these two surgeons. After I am well and past this, I will do that much more easily than it is now. Thank you for your response.

Thanks for your response. Have had similar medication perscribed for me. Am holding off and trying other more natural means [praying, relaxing, diet] for now. I may find that I'll wind up taking it.
In hindsight, I would recommend to try anything and everything before this surgery. My advice now would be to try to become the type of personality type that doesn't produce the indications for the surgery. I suffered a divorce and loss of two daughters. They were very badly reared by mother. I anguished tremendously for years. My daughters are with me now, but I am very beaten up and they are confused and lacking in self esteem etc. One is very angry and defiant. I hope to recover. I must. I know that involves forgiving. God help me. God heal me. God help you. God heal you. Thanks again for your response.

Do you know about the three legged wellness stool? All this stuff you are doing with the Enzymes, Fiber, Milk Thistle, Gall Bladder flush, etc - are you sure it's what you need to do?

From reading your post I think you should focus on the skilled relaxation, exercise and diet as your priority. Then use the other things you talk about as support measures for immedicate relief if they are indicated for your condition. I learned that sometimes a Gallbladder flush may not be the best thing to do under certain conditions. The long range benefits will be in the SR, exercise and diet.

This is just my opinion, maybe Helping You or Dr. Stoll could elaborate.

No wonder your guts are all tied up in a knot. You are taking the first steps to wellness and with perserverence, commitment and faith I am sure you can get there.

Brainsync has a Prayer CD. I just ordered some stuff from them, so I don't know anything about that CD. You should go to their website and see if there is anything there that could help you with your wellness protocol.
