diarrhea.... help

Posted by Erin on August 06, 2002 at 18:44:15:

Hi. I will be as brief as possible. I am a 30 year old female. When I was an infant, I had diarrhea problems and they had to check me for cystic fibrosis which I tested negative for. My mom said that the University of Minnesota did some stool testing and found that I was intolerant to artificial colorings, chocolate and a couple other things. Anyway, as a young child I suffered on and off with diarrhea stuff but I was a very active teenager with being involved in soccer and basketball for high school. Although, I never could drink cold beverages after games or else I would have to run to the toilet with diarrhea. Cold stuff has always been hard on my intestines. Was even going to get a full ride basketball scholarship but I blew out my knees (BOTH ACL's) and pretty much gave up on competitive sports at this point. Anyway, not surprisingly, when my knees blew and my scholarship fizzled, I did not exercise like my normal self and that is when I am convinced my immune system turned against me. During college I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and then my bowel problems got out of control. Irritable bowel was the diagnosis. Gradually as the years passed, I got worse and worse and my intestines three years ago were so bad with pain and diarrhea that a cat scan thought I had crohns disease. My gastro did a colonoscopy a few weeks later and found no signs of crohns BUT chalked it up to severe irritable bowel and COULD NOT help me with WHY since this episode happened, my gut has never been the same. I have had debilitating, chronic diarrhea ever since and I sometimes go 20 times a day! The doctor cannot tell me why it has gotten so bad and he literally seems like he does not care. "IF HE CANNOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG>>>>> HE DOES NOT CARE" I put this in quotes because I am sure he has already mumbled those words to himself!!!!!!!!!! So, here I am at age 30, feeling like I am 80, my life revolves around my intestines and where a bathroom is. I have already started removing sugar and limiting carbs from my diet along with starting to learn SR. But, I do not know what else to do. SHOULD I BE ON A FIBER SUPPLEMENT? SHOULD I TRY PRIMAL DEFENSE OR ANYONE HEARD OF THE A.M.P. MOLECURE? If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. I was on questran and for nine months it had lessened some of my problems. But, it has stopped working because for the last two weeks I have been going like crazy and I have lost about 10 pounds because I feel like eating absolutely nothing. ALSO... I should note that when I was around 12 or so, I was a strep throat carrier and for about one year I was put on a ton of antibiotics!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW this was not good for me.............................. I tried culturelle and it really did nothing for me which makes me kind concerned because I have heard this helps many with diarrhea. Any help would be ever so appreciated. Thanks for listening and sorry for my LONG message. I guess it was not all that brief. Sorry.

Hi, Erin.

Start with Trent Nichols, MD's classic "Optimal Digestion--New Strategies for Achieving Digestive Health". Your library can get you a copy.

While you are waiting, use the home page and the glossary and then the archives for LGS (leaky gut syndrome). Since bracing is the most common cause of this (You already had the LGS when you were born--the bracing has just kept it getting worse over the years.), and bracing is the ONLY cause of fibromyalgia, you are going to have to read about bracing and about SR as well.

Let us know what you learn. Once you have learned why you have this, it will be time to start DOING what will resolve it.

This is a TOTALLY unnecessary condition--even after all these years.

The only pay I ask is that you share your experience, as you are getting well, with this BB so as to help prevent others from having to go through what you have.

Walt
