Daughters Diarrhea

Posted by Smiler on August 30, 2002 at 12:25:57:

My daughter has had severe cramps and then diarrhea for a day or so....but now she still has the feeling that she has to go, but nothing happens ....then this morning...she had the spasms...and just some mucous with blood in it came out....not runny ....but the mucous was tinged with bright red blood and she was scared. She is 19 and we took her up to the emergency room where they pressed on her abdomen and she had no discomfort...they did blood tests...CBC, platlets, etc. and all was normal. Doc said it could be from a tear, irritation or fissure...did an internal and didn't feel anything....he said to keep an eye on her for next couple weeks and if it happened again...they would scope her....any ideas on this...? What can I say to keep her calm for now?

I am sure that would have to be scarey for her. She probably had a gastrointestinal virus and from all the diarrhea it caused a fissure ( a small tear inside) which caused it to bleed. Just tell her what she went through is normal (all things considered)and to be thankful all her tests were normal and she is a healthy woman and can resume a normal life. Tell her not to overdo it with her diet at first, ease back into a regualr diet slowly. Eating any fatty or spicy foods may upset her stomach again. I would follow up with her PCP though.

I agree with Dawn. It was probably an intestinal flu bug and all the diarrhea caused a fissure. Diarrhea is rough on the lining of the intestines and colon. It can also cause hemorrhoids, believe it or not, from the sudden straining and spasms.

Hi, Smiler.

If this is not gone in a month, or if it recurs, this is a severe form of IBS and that is due to LGS.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.

Thank you for your reassuring words....we are keeping an eye on here and have drastically changed her diet...I am giving her acidopholos tablets to get some friendly bacteria in there.....

Why is every diagnosis you make due to either LGS,Bracing, or GERD?

Re: Daughters Diarrhea (Archive in LGS) Sigh!

Leesa.

When all conventional diagnosis and treatment fails, people end up looking on the internet. Nearly all of those have conditions conventional medicine has not yet accepted.

All anyone needs to do to prove me wrong is to try these totally harmless approaches.

What is YOUR problem?

Walt
