? for HY: candida/ autoimmune issues

Posted by kc on August 30, 2002 at 23:04:31:

Hi,
I was diagnosed with candida and have taken diflucan for 6 months (I know this is definately not your preferred treatment). I have stopped and feel like my yeast is coming back after only 1 week- I've started the PD and plan to do large doses of that. However, I also have autoimmune problems (lupus, reynauds) and the symptoms were gone for months, now they are back and I'm wondering if its going off the diflucan or because I started both spirulina and chlorella a couple of weeks ago- could these immune boosters be making my immune system hyperactive?

Also, last August when my yeast symptoms began to become apparent, my hair started to shed (ALOT) it has continued to fall out since then, with no let up. I have tried supplementing biotin, zinc, iron, silica, collagen, copper peptide shampoos- why is my hair falling out still? none of these have given any relief. Have you seen people with candida shed a lot of hair and what has made it stop? Could the diflucan have exacerbated any sort of nutrient defiency that originally triggered the fall out? Sorry for all the questions but I'm at a difficult juncture right now and not sure what to do. thanks for your advice.

Hi kc, have you read up on leaky gut syndrome. Usually autoimmune is a symtom of leaky gut. I started out on the BB because I have/or had auto-immune and I wanted to find a natural cure for it. So I read up on the wellness plan, and Dr. Stolls book and researched all I could read here on the board. Slowly I am getting better. I had a ANA test last November and my test went from 1200 to 600 in a year. I get another test in November and I can't wait to see how I'm doing. I changed my diet, de-toxed, started exercising, and began SR. I was also losing hair. I started taking the biotin, and the silica and it stopped and started coming back in again. Maybie your hair loss has something to do with LGS. Hope some of this info helps you out.

Yes, there seems to be a connection between hair loss and auto-immune diseases/LGS. I had problems with yeast for years along with a thyroid condition. You can eliminate LGS through diet/supplements and build your immune system at the same time. My thyroid nodule has shrunk significantly and my yeast problems are gone.

What's your diet like for the past 6 months?

I know this is hardly the answer, but try RM-10 at the same time. This product is safe for people with autoimmune disorders and helps to modulate the immune system. It doesn't seem like you need immune boosting but instead immune modulating. Moducare, a plant sterol formula, would also help with symptoms.

In the meantime, learn everything you can about chronic bracing and LGS. The PD protocol is a good idea for you but you should consider doing it along with SR for maximum benefit.

Have you had bloodwork done for your thyroid? Your thyroid may be malfunctioning. What are your levels of C-reactive protein, ANA, and ESR Rate?

Hi! I know that both a friend of mine and I myself experienced hair loss while we were treating for candida. She lost a lot of hair. Mine was mostly on my body and eyelashes and eyebrows. I was taking Diflucan and she was using other anticandida treatments. I did notice however, that alopecia, (hair loss), is listed as a side effect of the Diflucan. So, I can't say for sure if it was the diflucan because my friend had hair loss andd wasn't taking it.

Did it stop? Did you or your friend take anything to make it stop? How long of a time period did you experience hair loss?

my thyroid tests always come back normal. I don't know what my levels are? My diet has been strict- mostly vegs, some meats (chicken, fish, buffalo) eggs, some nuts, no starchy vegs. I eat mostly organic and drink only water and herbal tea. I eat healthy fat- cococut oil, olive oil, ghee. I am taking L-Glutamine for LGS, I haven't really done SR but I do exercise. I also do accupuncture every week and a massage every month.

A lot of it stopped as soon as the die-off period was over and then finally when the yeast was eliminated.

Hi,
I just wanted to point out that most allopaths merely draw a TSH level when "checking" thyroid. You want to make sure your doc draws a *complete thyroid profile*, a much more extensive (and expensive LOL) but also accurate test. Your TSH could come back normal and thyroid problems will be missed. . .

Take care.

I *tend* to agree with you that *usually* autoimmune is a symptom of leaky gut. Do you know of any statistical analysis done in this area or is it all anecdotal ?
