Approx 2 months ago I was admitted to hospital with severe upper abdominal pains, nausea and vomiting. On examination by my consultant, I was diagnosed with having biliary colic / cholecystitis. Treatment was pethadine I/M injection, saline drip and anti-nausea injections. I was discharged after having x-rays and an ultrasound which showed nothing. Four days later, I was re-admitted after having had another attack, more severe this time. Consultant was now convinced that it was my gall bladder and had me sent for a HIDA scan. This showed that there were no stones, but it did show that my GB was very inflamed and was not functioning properly.
The pain was brought under control and again I was discharged with painkillers and an appointment for an endoscopy (YUK!!) This showed that I had an infection in the stomach and quite a lot of inflammation. From this...I was told that I had IBS. (?????) This has baffled me, as I have read up on the topic and I had NO symptoms mentioned. They gave me Colpermin and Zoton to take and gave me a follow up appt for 6 weeks.
I have been off work for the last 7-8weeks due to this. I am very limited as to what I can do. ANY form of movement causes great discomfort due to the abdominal swelling it creates. Night time is sometimes unbearable, getting very little sleep due to being so uncomfortable. I have seen my family GP since, and he is convinced that it is my gall bladder. I have an appointment on Mon 4th Nov with my consultant, but I am rather concerned that I may be fobbed off again. I'm feeling totally drained, lethargic and fed up by the whole thing. Is anyone able to give me some advice?? Does this really sound like IBS to you???
I'd appreciate any comments ASAP. Thanks. Marie.

Have you noticed that the discomfort comes after meals? Any shoulder blade pain?

Discomfort is now constant, not only at particular times. The pain is very sharp and sudden, but short. I am also suffering some pain in my upper back at times, but not as high as the shoulder blades...more rib area. The swelling is the worst to cope with though, as I am getting rather limited in my movements and losing sleep.

Hi, Marie.
LGS. LGS. LGS!
All of your conditions are caused by LGS. At least read the home page article, the glossary and the archives before they start cutting off the tips of your iceberg.
