Blood in stool - To Walt

Walt-

I am 31 years old and have been dealing with LGS for a few years. I had a colonoscopy and stool samples done in February to have everything checked out. Fortunately, I was given a clean bill of health, and they found "nothing" wrong with me -- chalking it up to nerves and IBS.

Right after that, I started searching on the net to do my own research on the matter, and found this BB. I've been practicing the three legs of the wellness stool for nearly 9 months now, and have seen a decrease in most of my symptoms (although they aren't completely gone). I'm happy to report that I have not had a violent diarrhea/cramping episode in over 6 months now. I was also battling chronic sinus infections and thick mucous in my throat at all times, and haven't had an infection in about 6 months as well (although I still battle some form of post nasal drip at any given time). I also still struggle with having looser stools during my period, as well as mild cramps.

Today I noticed that my stool had some "pinkish-red" spots in it, and became concerned. I went 2 or 3 times this today, and they were all like this. Through this whole battle, I never had had a problem with blood in my stool before today (at least I'm assuming it's blood?). It's light red in color and is intermittently spotted throughout the stool (I'm guessing, but maybe 4 or 5 nickel- sized clusters in one stool). My only other thoughts were that I had some diced tomatoes and red beans in the last few days -- would those come through as red or pink? I'm also on my period right now, although I'm not sure if there's a connection there -- the red/pink areas look "processed" into the stool, and are not separate from or floating over it.

Does this sound like something serious??

I am definitely no expert, but it sounds like the skins off of the beans were not digested (and maybe they don't digest easily).

Thanks, Mitzy and congratulations on your progress.

This is almost certainly what you ate. However, your pharmacy has inexpensive test kits (OTC) for testing to see if red=blood in the stool. If you have trouble finding them ask the pharmacy aide.

Let us know what you learn.
