extreme bloating, weakness

Posted by Patty on February 21, 2003 at 03:43:18:

for a long time I have had this problem after eating--the bloating and tightness in stomach are so bad that it causes me to moan with the discomforant and I am very weak. I take gas=x but it only helps a little bit. I have been trying to clean out my colon because of constipation problems. I felt good today then ate a lunch of toast-2, eggs, 2 canned hash, --shortly after eating, the bloating started and the 'bad feeling' kept getting worse. then I ate 1/2 of hamburger sandwich, small shake and 4 onion rings. this added to my discomfort and bloating ten fold. I know you are going to say: all of that is bad for me: true: but this happens to me even if I eat a meal of only 'good' things such as salads or sandwiches.

my question is == what can I do about the bloating, and these 'side effects' from eating -- when it happens. I have tried eating in smaller amounts, more times a day. everything makes me feel this way no matter what I eat and I get so upset trying to figure out what to eat. sorry for the long message. I can't sleep because of the bloating and discomfort so wanted to talk to someone. I live alone. I am 68 years old

Hi Patty,

At your age, you are not producing enough stomach acid to aid in your digestion. You should look into some digestive enzymes with HCL and pepsin in it and take it to tolerance (until your stomach starts burning from it and then back off). Also, try to eliminate wheat and dairy for a while. Hope you feel better.

Namaste`

Joanie,

You may have food allergies, prehaps having some allergie test would at least give you some idea to what you may be allergy to. Try eating only one thing at a time to see if it causes the bloating. Have you tried enzymes? Have you read anything on leaky gut? Have you been checked for parasites? I have allergies as well and I to have your problem, hopefully we can both find help soon.

Hi, Patty.

This must be very frustrating for you--as well as scary.

Listen to Vicky & Joanne.

First you are going to have to become an expert in this since it is extremely unlikely your doc will in the near future. Learn about LGS (Leaky Gut Syndrome). See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms. Then branch out into allergies and hypersensitivities. See the stool witholding protocol on the home page. You do not have that problem but that is the protocol you need to put the constipation problem behind you so you can focus on what will finally dig you out of this hole. If you have any doubts, see the current special issue of Newsweek, pages 42-52.

By far the most important thing for you to start AT ONCE is SR (skilled relaxation). Learn about wellness. The elimination/provocation diet may give you some early relief.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt.
