Diverticulits or Hernia (long)

Posted by Donna on March 30, 2003 at 16:58:42:

I am an 50 year old female, overwight, have Type 2 Diabeties, high blood pressure all controlled my medication...Year 2001, I told my gyn dr that I was having severe pain leftside every month, he said it didn't sound like female trouble,so I went back in 2002 same problem so he ran an Barium Enema, and found out I had pockets of diverticular, then medical dr wanted me to see a surgeon about this Umbilical hernia I have which is the size of the palm of your hand, surgeon just took one glance at me, and I told her about the attacks and she said the hernia had nothing to do with the diverticular and to call office when I have the attacks and and she would give me antibiotics, but if continued will have to do colon ressection, so on one of the attacks( they happen every month at the same time so severe that I almost pass out, I saw another surgeon he was going to do the colon resection, but wanted to do laproscopy with my gyn to make sure this was not endo, (my surgeon got deployed for war before surgery) so only the gyn dr did it and found nothing..I still have these severe pains each month, still have the umbilical hernina, saw another surgeon about that he flatly refused to do the hernia, said it would come back and to lose weight first...So I have no clue to what my pain is, and no one seems to care coz I am overweight, they blame all my pain on that...I know my body, and I know the pain I am in.Any insite you can give on this will be helpful

Try the link below.
Also look up "The Saccharine Disease" on Google.
Also read the book, "The Second Brain", by Michael Gershon.

Hi, Donna.

First, listen to your surgeon. Your first proirity is to lose the weight. Then, if needed, you might be able to have the colon resection and survive the anesthetic and the surgery. Then, during that surgery your umbilical hernia could be repaired with very little extra work since the original incision would be done through that area.

Your diverticular disease is caused by the LGS we discuss daily on this BB. If you do not deal with that you will eventualy get diverticulae on the colon that you have left.

IF your pain is all due to the diverticular disease you can at least stop that by following tht stool witholding protocol on the home page. I know you are no longer a kid and are not witholding stool but that protocol will stop your pain IF it is due to your diverticulae. You would like to know if that is the cause, wouldn't you? If not, you could have the surgery and wake up having the same pain again.

Let us know what you learn and how you do. Get rid of the weight!!!!

Walt
