I posted earlier about this same person. I spoke to him today, and he has kinda relapsed!!!! He's had constant dieahrrea since last Wed.. Today he his wrapped in blankets, he's freezing (lives in southern Florida) low temp, still has diahrrea, still has bloatedness, still is gassy. Dr. Stoll, can a virus go on this long? He hasn't vomited, but has experienced some nausea. He missed the clinic today, they were closed, but I am trying to talk him into going to the hospital. I am afraid for him, is there anything else that could be causing all of this? Thank you again. Bev

Bev,
What is his temperature?
He should be drinking clear liquids. Diarrhea can cause dehydration. Some people recommend the sport drinks with electrolytes.
In nursing, we learned about the BRAT diet for diarrhea, which includes bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. These foods are easy on the intestines, easy to digest.
Did you read Dr. Stoll's previous post to you?

Hi, Bev.
Listen to Carol B.
The answer to your question is NO. This guy needs to be seen by a professional.

In 1998 had amoebic disentary for several months. The doctor gave me antibiotics and they did nothing. I tried everything but nothing worked. I lost so much weight I looked like a skeleton. My friend's grandmother told me to drink Apple Jack and apple juice and then eat rice cereal made for babies. This advice saved my life. I believe the Apple Jack killed the bacteria. If the antibiotics don't help him, please pass this along.
