Hello....I have questions pl

Posted by Ericia on September 18, 2003 at 23:45:26:

Dear Dr Stoll,

This is Ericia with the gas pains. You mentioned the other time that my gas pains is due to air-swallowing but did not say anything about IBS. I suspect that could it be IBS? I only have gas trapped in my rib cage especially on the right rib, below the stoamch. At that spot the gas pulls in so much that there is a very very deep hallow-in., depression in that area.

I find my situation unique in that I am the only one I know since reading numerous websites and books that has gas manifestations in this way.

Pl offer me any advice on my situation.

I am unable to sit down and do my work in peace or watch a performance without angry feelings swelling up inside me. Years of coping with this and like many otehrs here have made me either fustrated most of the time or depressed when I quiet down to think things through.

Pl help. I know that like u always said, its up to us.
but I think pple like me need to be considered under a very different light because we have tried repeatedly and failed so many times. I would honestly prefer to be in so many other trying situations than this and I mean it.

Hi Ericia,

I'm not familiar with your situation, but I have a few thoughts to share about the relationship between the emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of illness. I sense some desperation and frustration in your posts, and I hope this will help to change your perspective, as mine has changed in the last year, after 20+ years of chronic illness.

Since you say you have feelings of anger over this, and say you have tried so hard for so long, yet continue to fail, then I would suggest that there is something you are not getting! Try shifting your attitude. Very difficult, I know, when you are the one suffering and dealing with these problems every day, but it's possible. Look at your situation objectively, as an observer would, rather than focusing on the discomfort as the one experiencing the symptoms.

What are you doing every day, or even occasionally, that might be harmful? What are you doing less than perfectly that might be aggravating your symptoms? What should you be doing that you don't want to do? How is stress and depression about your health problems affecting you? Are there avenues you've heard of, but are afraid or unwilling to try? Try to think of the advice you would give your best friend or closest loved one, if they were the one in your situation. Then give that advice to yourself. As my spiritual healer says, try to start thinking of yourself as a student, rather than a victim, and see what physical, emotional, and/or spiritual lessons can be gleaned from your experiences and challenges. Consider the possibility that these things are happening FOR you, not TO you, for a reason.

There must be strengths in you that you have not yet discovered, some past hurts you are still holding onto, some ongoing frustrations or disappointments in yourself or others that are hard to live with, or some aspect of your life you are unhappy with, but have been unable or unwilling to change. Try making a list of possibilities, both good and bad when you quiet down to think things through, rather than letting yourself get bogged down in frustration and depression.

Chronic health problems are often rooted in imbalances in the body/mind/spirit. Dr. Stoll always says that if you ignore the warning lights on the dashboard by putting black tape over them, the warnings will just get louder and more frequent until you finally break down. I believe the same is true of the warnings given by the body/mind/spirit that the system is out of balance and in need of a tuneup. They will keep getting more frequent and more difficult until you take notice and begin to work on your whole system, not just try to fix the body.

Leave yourself open to the possibility that there is more to learn in this lifetime, and that you are being given a wonderful opportunity. The universe very often provides just what you need.

Wishing you the best,
Nutmeg

Thanks Nutmeg.

I know I have never given up on trying but when emotions overrun me, I feel anger and desperation.

Now, I am going to the pharmacy to see if they have any aloe vera tablets.

Will you share more of ur experiences with me?

Thanks, Ericia.

With this additional information I suspect "hepatic flexure syndrome" but that does not rule out arerophagia OR IBS since people with one would be a lot more likely to have the others.

I think that serious wellness is your best bet in the long run--while you are learning as much as you can about LGS.

In the meantime you can break up your gas, and make it easier to pass along, by taking any of the defoaming agents available OTC (you are looking for simethicone). It is impossible to over dose on this so take whatever dose helps with the gas pains. Remember, this is a surficant so it will not be effective until it physically reaches the site of the gas (in this case the hepatic flexure of the colon). That depends upon your transit time.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you experience.

Walt
